Yo! After watching American Ninja Warrior, I want to start parkour. Anyone have any idea what muscles are needed for parkour so I know what to work on? I have a very weak back and I never squat, so please don't tell me legs and backU_U

I'm afraid parkour requires you to be very fit and condition all you major muscles groups including your core and legs.

Legs and back do like 75% of the work from what i hear. But parkour is useless and pointless in my opinion, i mean you just jump on shit and run... big deal.

Welcome.

Mainly legs because what are you going to do if you can't run for at least a minute while jumping.

Noooo:eek: I can't even do one pull up. And my abs are decent, so I guess I'm not in too tough a spot to start off:rolleyes:

Not imo. It's just amazing to me that things that are considered impossible to normal people are challenges for pro freerunners. You will at a fence and say "f*** that" but a freerunner will say "I can jump over that with ease"xd

Okay, good. I have good shoulders and triceps:D

Lol dammit, very true. Well, guess I better start squating and leg pressing:D

Start rock climbing and running.
The rock climbing will help build all of the necessary finger, hand, arm, shoulder, back, core, leg, and foot muscles.
The running will help build your core and endurance, which is another must!

Either way have fun with it!

Just don't do stupid isht like this...

Honestly, it does take a lot of everything you have...however, parkour is kinda' pointless. I agree that it can work for its intended purpose of getting to point A to point B faster; but only if you cut out the tricks and stuff that make it look cool.

Let's just say that a parkour master would have a hard time getting away from me just walking. :D They'd have to flip over everything they came across and in the end, I've been walking straight while they've taken some strange path...I'd be waiting at the end like Shikamaru; smokin' a cig with an amused smirk on my face. ;)

Put your energy into something like boxing. Than you'd be a beast.

You will use almost every muscle in your body to fully enjoy parkour. If you cant even do a pull-up, you should just give up, or get off your ass and get into shape.

AAAAALL of them, if you want a workout for it you might as well swim, swimming is a bitch though cuz you need a pool and such, or maybe try to add basic agility workouts to basic running, as parkour involves various stunts *while running*

Running and jumping seem to be the main elements + some agility.

Well. Sure you do need to use pretty much your whole body and its muscles in parkour but in my opinion legs and back are mainly the most important ones... If you think about it, what's the big deal of having great shoulders and triceps if you're not even able to run one hundred metres after landing.

They say that that first step for beginners is to practice landing and therefore 'roll' which is often performed after landing a drop 'cause it spreads the pressure against legs and back after (high) drop to a whole body. After "mastering" roll and landing it should be more safer contiuning to upper levels.

A monkey vault, a (king) kong vault, and a speed vault are pretty safety ones to start practicing parkour with.

There exist dozens of advice on the internet to follow and ones from prof' traceurs are for sure much better than my ones but I think it's good and safe to start with my advices as well :)

don't be afraid to ask me more about parkour either via this topic, pm or vm. Just have fun with parkour that's what it's all about like other hobbies :)

you need literally every muscle... well maybe not the neck xd

You need to be able to run, jump and climb. you need excelent endurance and good balance. Squats are essential because you will be doing alot of jumping.
