Tobi's Rinnegan

This has nothing to do with his identity or his power or anything like that. I'm just curious, if Tobi was Madara's ultimate D-rider and knew the real Madara was dead, why didn't he just take the Rinnegan from Madara instead of hunting down Nagato's corpse?

Thats what I'm thinking, but wouldn't that likely mean Tobi killed Madara and then gave Nagato the Rinnegan? Whole situation is a clusterfnck.

Madara said he awakened Rinnegan before he died. Madara also knew about Nagato. This must have been all planned out.
