Tobi is neither Obito nor the Sage's elder son he's Kagami it's as simple as that when there's a lot of evidence that supports this fact.

Madara and Tobi has some kind of plan, and because Madara died during 2nd Great Ninja War, Tobi has to be someone who was a grown man at that moment. Only this excludes many characters, which leaves us Kagami and Izuna. There are more hints ''proving'' that he's Kagami so let's check them out.

So when Tobi attacked the Leaf with Kurama there are two things to note:

1)

2) Tobi was able to get through the barrier without anyone noticing <-- he's a former shinobi of Konoha.

Also Kagami's teacher, Tobirama knew space-time technique, so this is how Tobi got it?

Except that Madara and Tobi had a plan together, and assuming that Madara died shortly after his fight with Hashirama, Kagami would have been a child. I doubt he'd have made plans 60 years ahead with a little kid.

What we know about Tobi?

He is an Uchiha who was somehow wronged and that's why he has the motive to kill off his clan and destory Konoha.

When Madara was brought back he knew who used edo tensei to bring him back and control him. He didn't know who Kabuto was but he expected to be revived by Nagato's rinne of rebirth via the rinnegan given to Nagato from Tobi.

He has Zetsu body parts so there must be a deformity in his body or uses them for regenerative purposes e.g. he could be very old

He read the stone tablet in the uchiha hideout allowing him to read the scrolls of the sharingan and the mangekyou sharingan.

If he was Izuna then he gave madara his mangekyou sharingan which madara later evolved into a Rinnegan.

After his brother's death he may of reclaimed his eyes and given them to someone with a strong life force and someone to use rinne of rebirth because his body couldn't take the strain of the jutsu.

Thus actually "giving" Nagato the Rinnegan

Then when he reclaimed it after Nagato died he was just acting as a baliff reclaiming the loan of power to Nagato

A Student of Madara/Izuna (like hiruzen to Hashi and Tobirama)
Son of Madara
Son of Izuna (pretty likely)

Can't be madara for the obvious reason of in order to be revived via edo tensei one must already be dead

This could be very true, and even tobi told danzo (during sasuke fight) that they haven't met since the last uchiha incident.
