Danzo fails as a character!

Danzo is such an insecure individual. He doesn't listen to his fellow elders or no one for that manner. Keeping peace should be done in different ways. He forced Itachi to make a difficult decision that had consequences at the end. Shisui's plan was flawless and it should have been executed, but Danzo took his eye away. I hold Danzo completely responsible for the demise of the Uchiha Clan. Tobi would be second of course. I think Danzo predimitated all of this. Why would he take their eyes? Was that for your imaginary peace? He just wanted to be the ruler of Konoha and control the nine tails. He is just greedy and he could care less about the people.

Danzo does the underhanded things he does because sometimes they are necisary the third Hokage was to kind and forgiving. Sometimes getting ones hands dirty is the best way to keep something safe I say

Bit in bold yep pretty much, but he had his reasons he fought the past leaders were fools, examples hiruzen letting oro escape, jiraiya teaching 3 orphans ninjutsu.. he said some other examples in the fire country meeting but I can't remember.

Firstly, Danzo was greedy - that was his downfal - and also a reference to the latest chapter in that the statue that itachi chose was the statue that removes greed - ie danzo ironically pushed him towards that whilst standing under the other statue.

On top of that, his moto i suppose would be 'any means to an end'.
He was always thinking of the greater good for the village (proven by his death against sasuke where he sacrificed his sharingan arms + his life to stop sasuke and protect the village), but his tactics and ideology is stretched and distorted, causing him to go around messing other peoples lives up for what he thought would help, and satisfy the greater good.

ultimately he failed in every aspect, but what can you say, he was doing what he thought was right - even if he seemed greedy whilst doing it.

Perhaps his arrogance pursuaded him to beleive he was what was best for the world

I would not say Danzo is insecure I think he is far from that. He wants the same thing as all of the Hokage (they wanted the safety of the village) that have come before him he just believes that force is the only to truly achieve that safety.

I would not say he is completely responsible for the demise of the Uchiha since it is the Uchiha themselves that started the uprising he was merely reacting in the way he saw best fit.

Also if you follow the words of Tobi then it was inevitable that the Uchiha would be destroyed since he held a grudge against them and wanted revenge himself, so it was either Danzo giving the order to Itachi when he did or Tobi wiping them out later on it was going to happen.

Funnily Danzo's activities and Sasuke's desire to kill all of Konoha is very much similar. Both has logic that is understandable . . . . but not at all agreeable. Danzo destoyed an entire clan to stop a possibility of war and Sasuke wants to destroy an entire village bcos of actions few. They have more in common than they knew.
