Itachi Ultimate Konoha Patriot? or Pawn??

So the title frankly states the question, Was Itachi the Ultimate Patriot for Konoha or did Konoha use him like any other pawn? Do the pros outweigh the cons for what he did for the hidden leaf? :shrug: If i was itachi i wouldnt have taken the mission to kill his family. I wouldve just left and let them fight it out without ever coming back. Either way he still never came back to the village only to see sasuke. Honestly I think the cons outweighed the pros.What do you all think?

I can't believe people still think like that ... Itachi loved the village and could see that the Uchiha uprising would cause not only it's destruction, but would also leave everyone so weak that any country could have invaded and destroyed everything, leaving nothing at all.

Itachi realized and decided that it was better to eliminate the Uchiha than to doom everyone including to Uchiha to ruin

I think he was a patriot. Ultimately, the Leaf did "use" him, but he's a soldier and is supposed to be used. I think his sacrifice was worth preventing civil war in a utilitarian sort of way. If anything he wasn't a complete pawn because he didn't kill Sasuke. If he had things would've turned out better.

If he let the Uchiha go ahead with their actions, they would kill innocent people of the village, and a ninja world war would eventually happen...

Selfish revenge would cause thousands of deaths worldwide, To someone who hates war as Itachi, that's unacceptable


If he let the anbu kill his clan themselves, They would show no mercy what so ever.. He would not have been able to beg for his brothers safety ...

What happened that night was to be kept a secret..he could not tell Sasuke anything, He had to leave the village and never come back again, because the blame for everything would be put on him....Before leaving however he did what he could for sasuke, though through questionable means, he played his roll as villain so that sasuke would kill him and be seen as a hero by konoha..

Itachi loved his village and was a Pawn for it..

To be fair almost every ninja , of every ninja is a pawn for war and missions..
The hokage gives you a mission, you do it.. , It's the ninja system..

If Itachi hadn't done it, I think the whole of the Uchiha clan would have been wiped out and alot of other people would have died as well. Itachi kind of in-a-messed up way saved their clan through killing them and allowing himself and Susuke to continue living.
So obviously a patriot.

1. He slaughtered the uchiha mercilessly killing children, seniors, teenagers, and families that probably werent in the coup de tat
2. They labeled him the worst criminal apart from the akatsuki
3. His brother is out to kill him
4. He'll never be able to enjoy the village that he killed for.
5. Even if he did save the village once, how many times has the village been attacked so far?

1) They would have been slauthered in the war and he killed em rather quickly so that's mercy to me

You cant exclude nagato so you can just have the upper hand in this debate. His attack happened and thats all that matters. Do you think Konoha wouldve been taken down so easily by nagato if the uchiha were in possesion of it?
