Chapter 49: Koichi vs. Masaomi
“This Masaomi kid, he's from the Iga clan, one of the founding clans of Sunagakure I've heard.” A wealthy spectator says.
“Yes, I placed my bet on him, he's also one of those swift users.” Another points out.
“Geez, they're not doing anything.” Another spectator says.
Koichi and Masaomi continue to stare each other down, neither one having made a move since the match began.
“Come on, fight already!”
“We paid good money for this!”
The crowd begins to boo as the two shinobi remain there. “I don't care what happens, I'm going to kill you Koichi.” Masaomi says.
“What happened to Maiyuri-sensei wasn't my fault.”
“You're nothing but a monster. Shizuko cries every night and Koga rarely sleeps because we worry about Maiyuri and you know what else?” Masaomi pauses. “Nearly every waking moment, my blood boils with the anxiety I get from wanting to kill you.” Koichi doesn't say anything, he just grips his fist in frustration. “Nobody's going to stop me.”
Koichi closes his eyes and sighs “You've already stopped yourself Masaomi.” Koichi opens his eyes and sees Masaomi right in front of him with a kunai lunching it right to his face.
“First mistake taking your eyes of me!” Masaomi yells. Just then Masaomi finds himself flying to the right and tumbling on the ground. Koichi's left foot is up in the round house position, having drawn his kick the minute Masaomi appeared before him.
“You're kekkei genkai makes no difference to me now. I don't need to predict your movements, my reflexes are on a dime's turn.” Koichi says. Masaomi gets up as if the kick was nothing surprising Koichi a little.
“*hmph* You think that was my kekkei genkai?” Masaomi says. Masaomi disappears and reappears behind Koichi and goes to slash downwards with his kunai. Koichi does a cross block trapping Masaomi's. Masaomi uses his free hand and releases a small black ball right onto the ground and a large black cloud of smoke envelops the entire area. Koichi is caught off guard and Masaomi kicks Koichi, knocking Koichi back and causing him to be released from Koichi's block. Koichi quickly regains his balance and makes the tiger seal and the ground beneath him turns into sand quickly. Several kunai fly towards Koichi and he hears them coming from several different directions. Maintaining the tiger seal Koichi uses his chakra to raise the sand to intercept them. Another kunai shoots towards Koichi from the front and he raises the sand again however the kunai has an explosive tag on it and the moment it hits the sand it causes an explosion of the sand. Masaomi appears to the back right side of Koichi. Koichi senses Masaomi's presence but is unable to react quick enough. Masaomi lunges a kunai to Koichi's kidney. Kiba hears the sound of metal piercing flesh and he sits up. He sniffs and smells the blood of one of the two genin and he clinches his teeth.
“Akamaru!” Kiba exclaims and the large old dog lets out a huge bark, the force lets out a wave of wind which blows away the smoke from the area revealing the two genin. Masaomi stands trapped in Koichi's sand, however a kunai is lunged into Koichi's side just above his kidney. The blade runs deep however, and Koichi bleeds out, holding his side. Masaomi's arm with the blade is caught with the sand as well as a whip of sand around his torso and his legs up to his shins are covered in sand. *Did he sacrifice his body to trap him? Or was he too slow?* Kiba ponders as he looks at the two genin.
“You may be able to keep up with my base speed but you can't keep up with my shadowless flight. I'm faster then you Koichi.”
“Don't forget you're the one who's trapped now idiot!” Just then Masaomi inhales through his noes and Koichi's eyes widen. *Shit!*
Koichi leaps back and Masaomi releases a small bullet of wind out from his mouth. “Fuuton: Shinkugyoku (Wind Release: Vacuum Sphere)” Koichi manages to evade the first bullet but Masaomi releases several more bullets towards Koichi. Koichi lands and back flips a few times evading three of the oncoming bullets but when he lands the third time one bullet grazes his left cheek and another goes through his left shoulder. He places up a wall of sand and Masaomi brings his free hand over to his trapped hand, releasing the kunai and making the bore hand seal, “Jinton: Mueisho (Swift Release: Shadowless Flight)” Masaomi vanishes in a swift movement of wind, his body appearing as if it were a vanishing cloud and Masaomi appears behind Koichi with another kunai and swings it. Koichi anticipates Masaomi's movements and drops his sand down and leaps away out of range for the strike. Masaomi however spews a stream of wind chakra on his blade as he swings it, increasing it's range and the wind extension cuts Koichi across the chest.
The crowd cheers for the action, they cheer for Masaomi.
“Finish him already.”
“Yeah lets hurry to the next round.”
Up in the participants section of the arena the other genin look down as Masaomi keeps Koichi on his toes. “Wow, who knew this Masaomi kid was so strong.” Hime says lacking interest. “I've never seen a swift user before, it doesn't look like this is going good for Koichi.”
“Koichi is only working with his taijutsu and his sand. When neither are fast enough to keep up he's out of options. This Masaomi kid is using wind style ninjutsu and his kekkei genkai. I guess I was focusing on the wrong person this whole time.” Jiraiya says.
“I thought Koichi could handle this. Something just doesn't seem right with him.” Kana says. Kana looks over at Koji, his body is tense as he grips the arm rest of his seat. “Hey...I'm sure he'll be alright. I mean even if he loses, that other kid is from your village right? He wouldn't try to kill him would he?”
“That's all Masaomi is trying to do right now. He hates Koichi, he's putting everything into every one of his blows trying to kill Koichi.” Koji says softly.
“But why?”
“It's a long story that I can't tell you, just trust me on this.”
“Koji...you don't need to worry about Koichi I mean...he's your brother and the proctors won't let anything happen to—”
“That's not what I'm worried about.” Koji says. “That idiot is holding back.”
“Koichi?” Kana looks down and sees Koichi struggling with every ounce of his being to avoid Masaomi's flurry of attacks. “But he's on—”
“I'm following every one of Masaomi's movements and I know for a fact that Koichi's eyes can keep up.”
“But just because you can see doesn't mean you can—”
“Koichi's body is faster then his eyes.” Koji says.
Naruto watches in from his mount and squints his eyes *Koichi, you're hesitating...why?* Naruto squints his eyes more looking at the rip in Koichi's torso and he notices the seal faintly. “He has the seal on!” Naruto exclaims standing up.
“Hokage-sama, what's the matter?” One of the Anbu shinobi says. Naruto shakes his head brushing off the guard and he sits back down.
*Is he trying to test himself?*
Masaomi launches three kunai with wind chakra around them increasing their speed. Koichi shoots his hand out and launches a large mass of sand towards the kunai, intercepting them. Masaomi makes the boar seal and Koichi drops down and places his hand on the ground. Koichi creates a mass of sand around him and the sand shoots out from all directions around him. Masaomi stops and makes two seals and inhales. “Fuuton: Shinku Taigyoku (Wind Release: Vacuum Great Sphere)” Masaomi releases a large sphere of wind that clashes with Koichi's sand and the sand and wind disperse on contact.
“Masaomi you're reckless!” Koichi exclaims.
“What the hell did you say?”
“You're a reckless hate pitiful excuse for a shinobi, and you don't deserve to ware the headband of our people.” Koichi says with fury.
“Who the hell are you to talk. You're a monster, not even a shinobi. What makes you an expert on what makes a good shinobi or not?! Everybody in the village hates you, they wish you were dead and I'm going to be the one to grant their wish!”
Masaomi makes the boar seal and as he does Koichi makes three quick seals as he closes his eyes. Masaomi vanishes in thin air. “10%” Koichi mutters to himself. Masaomi appears behind Koichi but the moment he does Koichi's hand is at his neck. Everybody is dumbfound not having noticed Koichi turning around.
“He's still holding back.” Koji says to Kana. She turns to him with amazement. “I can feel it inside him. Koichi's become unbelievably powerful in the past month.”
“How...what the hell.” Masaomi gasps trying to free himself.
“What makes me an expert is that I know what I'm fighting for. You think I don't know that my village hates me? I do but that doesn't stop me from fighting for them. I love my people regardless and I fight for them, just like a Sunagakure shinobi does. You, you fight for your own hatred. You were so reckless in your movements, even if I couldn't keep up at first I knew exactly what you were planning. You were going for every point on the that was vital. Every blind spot, everyplace a shinobi is trained to always be on guard for. Your fighting was predictable.” Koichi lectures right to Masaomi's face. Koichi's face is stern and serious as he looks into the eyes of his comrade shinobi. “If you haven't already figured it out, I was holding back, I wanted to see you fight with your real potential, if you're head wasn't so clouded you would've put up a much better fight but I don't even need 10% of my full potential to deal with you.”
“10....percent?!”
“Call me a monster, call me a nuisance, but at least I fight for something unselfish, which is why...” Koichi releases Masaomi and launches a powerful punch into his stomach. Masaomi's eyes bulge and the wind is knocked out of him. Masaomi goes flying into the wall of the arena at an incredible sped and cracks the foundation creating a small crater. Masaomi is unconscious before he hits the wall. “I win and you lose.” Masaomi's headband fall off his head and into his lap. The crowd is silent as Koichi turns around and begins walking away.
Kiba goes over to Masaomi and sniffs him for a moment. *Yeah he's out cold. That kid...he flattened him with one punch.* “Since Masaomi Iga is unconscious, the match goes to Koichi Shichiyo!” The crowd cheers and Koichi leaps up into the stands as the medics rush to Masaomi.
“Koichi...is so strong, hey Koji...” Kana turns and notices Koji's gone and she sees him over with the other participants. “You're...pretty fast yourself.” Kana says stunned.
“Hey guys, sorry if I started to take the life out of the exams.” Koichi says laughing.
“At least it wasn't you're life that was taken.” Koji says behind his brother.
“Oh come on bro, you're not going to tell me you didn't think I couldn't beat Masaomi?” Koichi says rubbing his noes arrogantly.
“When you play with somebody who's trying to kill you then I can, but at least you gave him something to think about.” Koji begins healing Koichi's wounds. “You've gotten pretty strong in this month Koichi.”
“Yeah, hope you don't fall too far behind me little bro.”
Koji smirks, “When have you ever known me to be the one to sit around on his ass doing nothing?”
“Well, you sit on your ass a lot, but that seems to be all you need and then you come out with some new crap that not even you've seen until you've done it. So I guess we've both had a pretty successful month.”
Naruto smiles as he looks over towards Koichi, *So he figured it out after all.*
**Flashback**
A few days into the one month training cycle.
Naruto's head leans back over his chair with a long paper over his face as he sleeps. There's several documents on his desk and Naruto snores.
Koichi and Lee stand in the room before Naruto and Koichi looks at him with a look of unexpressed disappointment while Lee simply smiles scratching his head. “What amazes me is the fact that he's so strong but he's just such a...*sigh* Yo, wake up!!” Koichi shouts. Naruto is startled and he falls out of his chair.
“Sakura-chan, I'm sorry! Don't hit...” Naruto looks over his desk sees Koichi standing before him and his attitude and expression changes. “What the hell do you want? And what's the big idea waking me up like that?! I'm the Hokage you know!”
“Yeah, yeah Hokage, whatever look I need you to show me how you undid that seal last time.” Koichi says.
“Hokage Whatever?! You little...wait, what do you want?”
“I need you to show me how you released the seal on my body that one night. I'm not going to be in Konoha forever and I plan on using this. I need to figure out how to release the seal at will.”
“It's not that simple actually. It takes a pretty good deal of chakra control to do it. Since you're a Jinchuuriki it's going to be harder for you.”
“You're a Jinchuuriki too and you created so why can't I learn it?” Naruto looks at Koichi and smiles.
“Alright then. This is a fuinjutsu technique. I'll explain the basics since this jutsu is fairly basic in construction. All fuinjutsu deals with is locking and unlocking. To unlock this technique you need the Dog, Horse, and Tiger seals.”
“Alright, what else?”
“Remember the feeling you had when the seal was spreading all over your body?”
“Yeah it felt like it was expanding.”
“Yeah, just focus your chakra on the seal and this time, instead of expanding it, repress it into the seal.”
“Alright then, here I go.” Koichi makes the three seals and tries to repress the seal but nothing happens. “Damn it why isn't it working?! Hey there has to be something else.”
“Nope, now if you don't mind I'm busy.” Naruto puts the paper over his eyes again and sits back in his chair and goes to sleep.
“Naruto!” A voice yells at him.
“Hey I told you I'm busy you stupid little...” As Naruto takes the sheet off his head he notices Sakura before him and Lee and Koichi on the side lines. “S...Sakura-chan.” Naruto stutters in fear.
“Stupid little WHAT?!” Sakura yells.
“No, no, Sakura I was talking to—”
Before he could even finish his sentence Naruto goes flying through the glass window of his office and continues well into the sky like a shooting star through the village.
**End Flashback**
The Anbu guards look at the Hokage with his knees in his chest rocking back and forth terrified. “Sakura-chan...” The guards are face each other confused at their leader, rocking in fear.
Kiba walks into the middle of the stadium and he sees Naruto and shakes his head. “Alright, the intermission is over, time for the next match up. The next paring is: Temari Nara from Sunagakure and Hi Aburame from Konohagakure.”
Temari and Hi both jump down into the field and they face each other.
“You are from our village's Nara clan.” Hi says.
“Yeah but I got a lot more tricks up my sleeve then you may think.” Temari says back.
The two stare each other down, Hi with his clan's signature hidden stoic look while Temari bares her clan's signature nonchalant look. Despite the lacking emotion and intense vibe from the two shinobi, both are eager for the fight. Two shinobi coming from two clan of high intellectuals face off.
“Begin!”

Well, I delivered on my promise didn't I? Here is chapter 49 and the first fight of the Chuunin Exam Finals. I hope you all enjoy it. The poll at the top of the thread is for next round's match up. Vote who you think is going to win. I realize this first one was pretty cut and dry but this next one should be a little more difficult lol. Please comment on what you liked/disliked the most.
