Clearly he can log in, however when he does he is presented with an error message.

Probably something to do with a redirect and other actively running scripts interfering with whatever. It would help if you posted your browser, and version, and possible add-ons that could interfere with the normal operation of a website.

Just mark the ''remember me'' box before logging in and next time don't log out just close the tab.

I believe that's something called "preference".
