Background: Long background, so it's going in a spoiler.
Itachi was born into the Uchiha clan, and at a young age was praised on as the most skilled in his generation. He was praised for his intelligence mostly and praise coming from the Uchiha clan means Itachi was extremely talented as a child. Although, few understand the vast pain he went through, at the mere age of four, Itachi has already witnessed multiple deaths during the Third Shinobi War and turned him into a pacifist (someone who is against violence). During the attack on Konoha when the Masked Man fought Minato, Itachi was alone with his infant brother and promised he'd protect him no matter what.
Itachi graduated the academy at the age of 7, mastered his Sharingan at the age of 8, and passed the chunin exams at the age of 10. Half a year later, he was enrolled into the ANBU and was promoted to captain at the age of 13.
Itachis father praised him often, saying that he's the future of the clan. This means that his father often ignored and neglected Sasuke, although Itachi seemed to show love for his brother, always encouraging him to do better. At the time of his ceremony enrollment, Itachi asked his father to go to Sasukes celebration, although his father forgot to go.
As the Uchiha were planning to overthrow the Hidden Leaf, Itachi, as an ANBU member went to go spy on the village. Although Itachi knew that attempting to take out the Hidden Leaf would set up another great ninja war, and being the pacifist he is he wouldn't let that happen. So for this reason, he began to spy on the Uchiha, secretly passing the information to the third Hokage and the Leaf elders. During this time, Itachi began to do things like skip meetings and speak out against the clan. Due to this, the clan considered him a number one suspect for the murder of his friend Shisui Uchiha, who drowned in the Naka River. Although Shisui really entrusted Itachi with one of his Sharingan, and giving the other one to Danzo. Since the clan seemed to lose faith in Itachi, his father began to focus on Sasuke more than him. Since the attempts of non-violent means of peace keeping between the Leaf and the Uchiha seemed to be ineffective. The Third Hokage & Danzo ordered Itachi to wipe out the entire Uchiha clan.
Before Itachi went to go wipe out his clan, he ran into a man named Tobi, who was posing as Madara Uchiha. He was attempting to start up the flames of war in Konoha. In return for not attacking Konoha, Itachi offered to help him claim vengeance against the Uchiha for turning their backs on him decades earlier. Tobi agreed. So, Itachi murdered his entire clan in one night, including his family, friends, lovers, and so on. This event became known as the Uchiha Clan Massacre. Although, he didn't kill his little brother Sasuke because he just couldn't go through with the villages order to kill his little brother. So he decided to trick Sasuke into thinking he was a murderer who killed his entire clan just to test Sasukes capacity, Itachi told Sasuke he wasn't even worth killing. In this conversation, Itachi also told Sasuke where the secret meeting place of the Uchiha is. There, he can learn all the secrets behind the Sharingan. Itachi told Sasuke that he has to kill his closest friend to unlock the Mangekyo Sharingan, and that the next time they fight, Sasuke should have those eyes.
Sasuke awoke his Sharingan in an attempt to pursue Itachi, and when he caught up to Itachi, he knocked his headband off. As Itachi went to go pick it up, he started to tear, then knocked Sasuke out and flee the scene. By doing this, Itachi hoped Sasuke would follow him to take vengeance and become the hero of Konoha, therefore redeeming the Uchiha name. Itachi left the village as a traitor, and went to ask the Third Hokage to not betray Sasuke. Followed by threatening Danzo saying he'd tell enemy countries

Since Itachi left the village, he became a member of the Akatsuki in order to see what Tobi is scheming, while planning to die from Sasuke. One instance in the Akatsuki, Orochimaru attempted to steal his body, although he put Orochimaru under a genjutsu and cut off his arm. Later, he was paired with Kisame and the two became good friends. Another thing is that he fought Deidara as a child and put him under a genjutsu, to which Deidara swore revenge. At some point in time, Itachi contracted a fatal illness. He kept himself alive through the intake of various medicines and sheer "willpower", in the hopes of living long enough to die by Sasuke's hands.

Ninjutsu & Taijutsu Note: ~ = (Manga Only)
Itachi was great at using ninjutsu and his main nature affinity was fire release. Itachis Fireball Jutsu was enough to be feared among any ninja, and on top of that, Itachi had the ability to infuse Shuriken with his Fireball to add twice the amount of danger to his attacks. He also has other moves that use this same form of shuriken additions. For example, he uses the Fire Release: Phoenix Sage Flower Nail, which is basically a shuriken infused with chakra in the form of fire. Itachi has the ability to control how his Shuriken moves throughout the air and will also have the shuriken burn after impact, no matter how flammable or not flammable the object is.
If the enemy has an earth element based fighting style, Itachi is also quite proficient with Water Release. For example, the Water Release: Water Fang Bullet is a jutsu that takes a body of water and is pulled in which ever direction the user wants in a spiraling motion. This gives it an added pressure and makes the technique deal more physical damage than a regular water based move. Although, it should be noted that Itachi is not skilled enough to make his own body of water (atmosphere, mouth, etc), he needs an external source to preform water based moves.
Although this is not Itachis preferred fighting style, he does have quite a bit of Taijutsu capability. Some examples of this are when he knocked away Sasukes Chidori with one hand, he was also able to keep up with B and Naruto while in his Nine-Tails Chakra Mode, although he couldn't handle both at the same time. Another time in which Itachi demonstrated his Taijutsu prowess is when he defeated three of his superiors who were all in the police force.
Also, Itachi was said to have good speed and reaction timing, being able to throw weapons and/or weave hand signs almost instantaneously in any given situation. Even Kakashi, a person who's copied over 1,000 jutsus had a hard time keeping up with Itachis hand sealing movements. Itachi could also use the Body Flicker Technique, being able to attack a target, then immediately move to the location they had retreated to, giving them no time to initiate a counterattack.

Itachi, unlike most members of the Uchiha clan, obtained the Mangekyō Sharingan. This allowed him to use various extremely powerful techniques such as Tsukiyomi, Amaterasu, and even Susanoo. His Susanoo is quite special, it wielded the Blade of Totsuka, a blade in which it seals anything it cuts, and the Yata Mirror, which could repel just about any attack. The Susanoo also contained the Yasaka Magatama, which is a long ranged attack. This attack acts somewhat similarly to the purpose of a shuriken, although much more stronger. It's been shown that Itachi since the moves were very chakra draining, and he used his Mangekyō Sharingan so much during his life that the design of his eye actually faded so much that all you could see was the red iris, which is either blinding or on the brink of it.

Why do I do these analysis'? Because it helps me retain the information about a character more when I write it down in an organized fashion like this. It's basically a learning experience.
Why do I make a thread like this? Because it's very easy to organize information with the setup (spoilers, glows, links, etc etc.). + Maybe someone will be interested to read this and learn a thing or two about this character. On top of that, I think maybe it's a nice break from the repetitive threads we see everyday. My opinion though :shrug:

He's reached the point where he could keep his Sharingan activated for a long period of time with it draining minimal chakra, somewhat like Kakashis sharingan or Nagatos Rinnegan. Itachis specialty with the Sharingan was his genjutsu abilities. They were far beyond average, being able to put someone under a genjutsu with merely pointing at someone or even turn someones genjutsu against them. Itachi has also reached the point where he could use the eye technique Izanami, one of the most powerful and respected techniques. It's quite obvious that Itachi has a vast amount of intelligence that he gained throughout his life, or even in his early childhood. Since he was a child, his parents, superiors, and peers all regarded him as the best in his generation due to his keen intellect. He's able to come up with counteracts or strategies in general that put him at a heightened advantage, while keeping his enemy at a large disadvantage. He's able to be analytical and perceptive, being able to deduce the inner workings and weaknesses of powerful techniques, even while under pressure. Itachi also once said something along the lines of every jutsu has its weakness.
He also completely set up his battle with Sasuke to make sure everything worked out as Itachi had planned, which proves not only he can come up with strategies mid-fight, but also make long term plans that come down to the closest detail. Chakra
Itachi had a decent amount of chakra, there's nothing too special about the amount he has. Although, Itachi tends to keep his Chakra precious and use it only when necessary, rather than resorting to susanoo spam (sasuke xD). One example of this is the fact that Itachi wasn't blind yet. Take Sasuke for example, he had his Mangekyō Sharingan for not too long, and he almost went blind in both of his eyes from using it only a few times. He already had to get an eye transplant because of it. Meanwhile, Itachi had it for at least ten years, maybe even more and he still didn't go blind in his eyes.
Also, Itachi has good chakra control seeing as how he's able to use two nature transformations effectively in the middle of a fight. Also, he's able to manipulate things such as shuriken by infusing chakra in it with an external force such as fire (or potentially water?).
