Chapter 10: Gaara versus the Demon Part 1
The man was high up in the sky. The winds blew harshly as clouds roared in anger, flinging lightning bolts and a flurry of heavy raindrops on the ground. He was watching another person, while holding a huge weapon up his head. He was leering at the man on the earth, his arms raised with his humongous and humming sword as if he were about to destroy the world.
It was Momura Rouzuke looking down at the Kazekage, Gaara of the Desert. Rouzuke had just attempted to bargain with his opponent, and was just waiting for his desired answer.
Gaara was already exhausted, his chakra almost depleted. He looked around, and he knew that he wouldn’t win. His sand was already wet with the rain, too heavy to wield with his remaining chakra. Temari and Kankuro were also ready to go down with one more blow. His men were assortments of the dead and wounded. His ultimate defence has already been breached.
“So, Kazekage,” Rouzuke interrupted, apparently growing impatient, his arms still clinging to the huge weapon. “What have you decided?”
Gaara had no choice, yet. They were already vulnerable, their defences down, and they haven’t even participated in the war yet. He needed someone to stall in the situation. He needed back-up, yet no one will come.
“God, you’re so slow,” Rouzuke said, his patience in its limit, he aimed his sword at Gaara, which emitted sparks and glowed with a mix of blue, red and yellow streaks of chakra that seemed to move in an agitated manner. “I guess I’ll just have to cut your limbs off!”
A crack of lightning and he dashed towards the ground, to Gaara himself. Gaara’s eyes widened as his opponent approached him with the speed of a meteor. In the corner of his eye, he saw a pair of arms reaching out to him. The ground exploded as Rouzuke met the earth, sending bits of dirt, sand and mud flying everywhere.
Rouzuke’s chakra sword pierced the earth, burning the soil. Gaara’s body can’t be found. Rouzuke looked around, and his shades quickly located his missed target.
“You!” He yelled at Gaara, seeing that the latter managed to dodge his attack. “How?”
Then he saw Gaara being helped to his feet by Kankuro and another puppet which reminded of Rouzuke about the past, where he remembered that he encountered the exact same puppet in one of his travels.
“You,” he asked, trying to regain his composure. “Why do you have that?”
“This,” Kankuro replied calmly. “This is my newest puppet, Sasori of the Red Sand!”
“S-Sasori,” Rouzuke muttered. “But I thought I killed him during that time.”
“Eh?” Kankuro asked, his right brow raising. “Leaf shinobi defeated Sasori. There’s no way that you could’ve defeated him before the Leaf did.”
“I see,” Rouzuke replied, eyeing the gaping hole on the puppet’s left chest. “It seems that I haven’t disposed any Akatsuki member thoroughly, leaving them to die eventually. But it looks like I’m wrong in all cases.”
“You,” Gaara said, trying to speak with difficulty. “How could you know about the Akatsuki? And what did you mean by ‘haven’t disposed any Akatsuki member’? Are you a mercenary?”
“So many questions,” Rouzuke retorted, apparently annoyed at being derailed of his primary motive. “You haven’t even won yet, you piece of shit!”
Instinctively, Kankuro used the Sasori puppet to attack Rouzuke head-on. “Don’t you dare insult any of us Sand shinobi!”
Rouzuke easily cut off the chakra threads connecting Kankuro to the Sasori puppet, then kicked the puppet aside with so much force that it landed with an explosion, scattering its body parts everywhere. Kankuro’s eyes widened as he saw Rouzuke grab the chakra threads without difficulty.
Kankuro was reeled in, towards Rouzuke, who immediately pointed his weapon to the former, ready to pierce without remorse. But Gaara and Temari used their last spurt of chakra to save Kankuro and attack Rouzuke simultaneously. The sand blocked and stopped Kankuro from approaching towards their opponent, while the wind blew Rouzuke far enough for the three to regroup.
“Not bad,” Rouzuke muttered, as he picked himself up from the ground. His weapon was blown away, far from his reach, yet he knew its location. He looked towards his remaining enemies’ direction, trying to assess his next move.
“It seems that you’ve become too relaxed,” Rouzuke roared, as he weaved a hand seal for a Shadow Clone, which then pulled out another scroll along with the original. “You haven’t won yet, and your decision still remains unanswered. Ninja Tool Summoning: Twin Slasher!”
He and his clone’s arms were suddenly covered in smoke. Upon the dissipation of the smoke, their arms were revealed wielding on each arm a mechanical weapon connected to the arm itself and has a single pivot holding a single blade on one end and an empty guarded handle (similar to the previous weapon used) on the other. The blade resembled the blade of his Fang Blade, though the edges were straight throughout. Each of the blade’s sides has a single clear gem embedded on them.
Both of them ran chakra to their weapons which emitted a few sparks. Black chakra columns sprouted from the handles’ hollow spaces, and made the weird humming noise as the air around them grew warmer, with each rain drop sizzling as they hit the chakra.
“Pure chakra,” both of them declared, with the mechanism of the weapon suddenly whirring into motion, sending the handles towards their palm in a yawing motion. “It can cut through anything.”
Upon catching the handles, the titanium blades glowed with Wind and Lightning Release chakra. Both assumed a fighting stance. “Prepare yourselves, for your death is imminent! Swift Release: Shadowless Flight!”
Without any warning, Rouzuke and his clone disappeared into the silence. The storm has passed, and the clouds have started to part from the sun, which brightened the area immediately.
Gaara, Kankuro and Temari were all frozen with fear and anxiety, as they tried to sense their opponents’ movements. The sun had already dried some of the sand molded with Gaara’s chakra; Gaara then started to use the sand to protect them from unseen attacks.
A flurry of slashes met his thin shroud of sand yet retreated. It continued to different points. Gaara and the others were frantically searching for their opponents’ in vain, as the two were virtually impossible to pinpoint. The shroud gave in, and they were scratched and cut by the attacks, trapped in an invisible vortex of unseen blades.
In just a few more moments, they were already bleeding from their flesh wounds. Rouzuke and his clone reappeared in the same spot where they left. Both were leering at their wounded enemies.
“So, has the Kazekage reached his decision,” both asked smugly, while reverting back to their battle stance. “Or would you like to taste a bit more pain?”
