Chapter 44: Not Needed
The sun shines high over Konoha. The day gets closer and closer to the evening as each moment passes.
“Get back here!” Kana yells as she pursues Koji. She keeps running after him through the back streets of Konoha. *Damn it, I'm not making any headway with him* She follows Koji with everything she has for almost an hour after his escape. “Koji stop!” Koji doesn't respond, he just keeps running through the dirt road. “Wait...this road, son of a...Release!” She makes the tiger seal and she releases genjutsu and she's revealed to be at the tori gate at the beginning of the road. “Damn it, he trapped me in a loop, I've been going in circles for over an hour.” Kana goes up against a tree and sits down as she bites her finger drawing blood. She makes a few seals and places her hand on the ground “Kuchiyose no Jutsu! (Summoning Technique)” Kana summons a hawk with a white streak down it's brown hide on the back. The hawk flies over head and Kana holds her hands out. “Shintenshin no Jutsu! (Mind Body Switch Technique)” Kana places her consciousness into the bird and she has it descend onto her shoulder. As the bird touches her shoulder she disappears completely and the Hawk begins to fly high over the village.
*Perfect* Koji appears a few meters back from where Kana is and he heads on his way.
~Konoha Training Grounds~
“AHHHH!” Koichi and Lee go at it in straight hand to hand combat. Koichi manages to put up a descent fight against Lee however he's still overwhelmed by Lee's speed and strength. Lee darts out towards Koichi and releases a barrage of punches and kicks. Koichi ducks and evades the powerful blows. He side steps on of Lee's punches but he still feels the backlash winds from the intensity of the blow.
*Another one of those hits will ice me again.* Lee spins around and does another Leaf Whirlwind and Koichi crosses his arms and holds them firm and takes the blow and he's knocked back hard but he stands firm. Koichi begins to pant and Lee holds out his arm in his stance not even near breathing heavy. “Is that...the best you got?” *Why the hell did I just say that?!*
“Hardly! Experience the full sensation my youth!” Lee unlocks the first gate and immediately gets under Koichi and kicks him into the air. Lee gets behind him, using Dancing Leaf Shadow and his bandages begin to unravel. “Now you'll experience my signature technique!”
*Got to intercept it!* Koichi moves his arms to his right side and whips himself around in order to kick Lee, but his attack is blocked by Lee effortlessly *Now!* Using his leg, connected to Lee's arm, Koichi pushes himself off Lee and he heads towards a tree, avoiding his lotus. As he travels back to the tree, Koichi takes out four kunai and launches them at lee and Lee simply uses the bandages on his arm to grab them. Koichi leaps off the tree, seeing an opening and goes to shoot another punch *Now he can't move* “Take this!” Lee disappears and appears above Koichi, much to his surprise and he does a double palm heel strike on his back and Koichi goes flying down and into the ground.
Lee lands and sees Koichi on his left side as he begins to pull himself out of the crater *He moved to his side and had his shoulder and the side of his body take the impact instead of a face plant or landing on his back.* Koichi pants even heavier now having taken a lot out of him just to keep up with Lee's movements. “Koichi!” Lee yells startling the genin. Lee's face looks serious as he peers into Koichi's eyes.
*Oh man, he's getting serious now, I can't take much more of this.*
Just then Lee begins crying hysterically and Koichi looks at him with utter confusion. “I've never seen such determination in all my time teaching. You remind me so much of me when I was younger!” Lee cries into his arms. “So...beautiful...”
“Aha, thanks...I guess.” Koichi scratches his head blushing.
“I'm done taking it easy on you now. I'm going to take you seriously now.”
“Great!” *Damn!* Just then Lee holds out a small tag with a seal on it and holds it out in front of Koichi. “What is this?”
“It's an exercise tool made my Naruto-kun.” Lee explains.
“The Hokage...made this?”
“That's right, he made it just for me to maximize my training. I had him make more for my students but none of them showed the drive you do, so I've decided to give it to you. Once you put this one, you will enter Rock Lee's Ultimate Youth Training Regimen!”
“Now that sounds like fun, bring it on!” Lee tears off Koichi's shirt and places the tag on his chest. The seal on the tag expands and goes all over Koichi's body from the neck down. Just after the seal completely marks Koichi's body, it glows blue and Koichi drops like a rock to the ground. “What...what is this weight!”
“This is no ordinary seal.” Lee takes off his flak jacket and shows Koichi his chest from his jump suit. The seal is the same on him. “This seal acts as a full body weight. The chakra mixed in with is designed to make one's body extremely heavy and nearly impossible to move. At it's max like it is now, you'll feel like hundreds of pounds are pressing down on your body from the neck down.”
“This...is too much...can't we lighten it?” Koichi asks.
“I wish I could. However, I can't mold my chakra to use ninjutsu or genjutsu so you're stuck like this until the seal is released.”
“What do you mean you can't use ninjutsu?! I can't even pick myself off the ground.” Koichi says.
“That's your first test, to pick yourself off the ground.” Lee walks away leaving Koichi on the ground to fend for himself.
“Hey wait...wait...WAIT!”
*Lets see how he does.* Over head the cry of a hawk is heard. The hawk descends on to Koichi's shoulder and places it's beak on his head.
*Hey, Koichi is it?* a voice transfers into Koichi's head.
*What the hell? Who are you...how are you in my head?*
*It's me Kana, I'm using my clan's technique to communicate with you, I need you to help me find your brother. He got away and he's using up a lot of his chakra just to avoid me, he's going to ware himself out again*
*Damn it Koji...* The hawk ascends back up into the sky and Koichi grips his hands in the ground and begins to forcefully pull himself up. Lee, observing from a close distance widens his eyes, surprised at the rate Koichi moves. Koichi fights back, sweating a great deal, his face stressed from from the physical strain he puts on his body just by moving. Koichi begins walking out of the forest taking slow step trying to accommodate weight of the technique as he searches for his brother.
Several minutes pass and the strain on Koichi's body becomes too great and he collapses against a tree. He hears rustling in the bushes around him just then Koji appears from out of the bushes walking towards him. “Koichi there you are, what are you doing laying around.”
“You idiot, I was looking for you!” Koichi shoots up with anger and grabs his brother by the collar. The hawk over head looks down at Koichi and Koji and Kana immediately sends her chakra back into her body and she awakens.
“What's the matter with you Koichi? I told you I was going to help you train.”
Koichi throws Koji on the ground. “What's the matter with me? What the hell's the matter with you? You've never been this stupid before, running off while you're injured, being stubborn, what is your deal?”
“I'm just trying to help you guys!” Koji snaps. “Why can't you guys get that?! I don't care what happens to me anymore!” Koichi's eyes widen at his brother. “As long as I'm useful to the two of you I don't care. The two of you need me, whether you know it or not.” Koji's hysteria slightly frightens as he walks over to his brother. Koichi punches Koji in the face with a surprisingly fast and powerful punch.
“Who the hell says we need you?” Koichi says in a low tone. Just then Kana comes into view looking at the two brothers. “Don't go around acting like you're top dog here when you're not! You're still second place little brother. I don't know what's going on with you, this sacrificing yourself, playing the hero who jumps in front of the bullet for his friends. Whatever it is, you can kill it now because we're sick of the guilt trip!” Koichi, now accustomed to the weight of the seal begins to walk at a more normal pace. “Are you sure we're the ones who need you Koji? Remember what it means to be a team player. We can take care of ourselves and if you truly want what's best for us you'll stay out of our way and just do as your told, instead of having us bend over backwards for you.”
Koichi walks away and head back to where he last left Lee. Kana stares at a solemn Koji sitting in the dirt. He gets up and walks past Kana without saying a word. The tension in Koji's body is felt by Kana and she simply avoids talking to him as they make their way back to the hotel.
Several hours pass after the two make it back to the hotel room. Koji reads up on his scrolls for the entire duration of the time. “He's right you know.” Kana finally says, breaking the silence in the room. Koji drops his head hiding his eyes and he grits his teeth, obvious anger is instilled on his face although Kana can't see his eyes. “You bullied yourself through these exams trying to make yourself look like the hero. All you've done was make them worry about you...but that's what you wanted didn't you? You wanted them to worry about you.” Koji whips his scrolls closed and puts them up his sleeve. “That's selfish of you just to try and guilt your own teammates into worrying about you.”
Koji gets up without saying a word to her and begins walking towards the door. “Hey, wait a minute!” Kana gets up and grabs Koji's arm. The moment she does, Koji backs his head up into Kana's nose, headbutting her and she stumbles backwards, releasing Koji. Koji then does a stepping side kick into her ribs and knocks her onto the ground and he continues out the door, slamming it on his way out. “Damn it.” Kana gets up and runs out the door.
“Let him cool off, both you and Koichi went too far with it.” Kana turns and sees Kankuro leaning up on the left just outside the door. Kana looks at Kankuro who stares across at the wall in front of him.
“How long have you—”
“Koji's always been relatively good at controlling himself, I can tell just by his aura, he wanted to do so much more to you then he actually did...it's only because of you bringing the subject back up. At times he wants to just beat the hell our of Koichi too but he doesn't because that's not who he is.” Kankuro says. His deep insight on his student leaves Kana speechless, not knowing what to say. She simply listens to the mellow toned Kankuro. “I was going to talk to him but he needs to cool off first.”
“You're his sensei, you seem to know him better then anybody else right now. Why is he acting like this?”
“Of my three students, I do know Koji the best...it's not my place to tell you about him though.” Kankuro begins to walk away and leaves Kana in the door way. “Everybody wants affection, some people need it more then others so they need to do what they can to get it, even if it's not the most agreed upon method.” Kana stands confused but something deep down in her feels remorse. “Either let him tell you himself or let it drop.” Outside on the roof top tears flow down Koji's face however he remains for the most part, without emotion on his face.
~Several Hours Pass~
Night has come to Konoha, the hotel room is dark and Kana is passed out on one of the beds in the room. A strong rain pour is upon the village, heading west. The door opens to the hotel room and a light comes on, waking Kana from her sleep. She gets up to see Koji walking in the room holding a single yellow rose in his hand. Koji places the rose at the foot of Kana's bed and heads to the next bed over. “I'm sorry.” Koji says mellow toned as he gets into the bed. He takes his shirt of carefully around his sling and turns his back to Kana and goes to sleep. Kana looks at the flower at her feet and turns to Koji.
“Hey...do you want to talk about anything?” Kana says gently.
“Not really.” Koji doesn't stir.
“I'm sorry for what I said, I don't know...can I at least ask why?”
Koji sighs softly to himself. “Because I'm selfish, plain and simple...goodnight.” Kana detects his lie immediately but she takes the hint that he's not in the mood to talk. She remembers what Kankuro said before he left, “Shishou said you practiced medical jutsu...maybe tomorrow I can show you some of the things I learned, they're nothing much just some basics but...you know it could pass the time.”
Koji moves slightly and he turns his head to Kana, looking her in the eyes. He looks at her with a look of solemn gratitude “Thank you.” The storm in Konoha at this point has lessened to a light rain shower.
~Iwagakure~
The storm that showered over Konoha now makes it's debut in Iwagakure. The thunder clouds roar loud and large bolts of lightning spark down in the Iwa, lighting up the sky. A hooded figure stands on a cliff, overlooking Iwagakure. The Thunder continues to roar over the village and it's followed by a large flash of lightning. As the flash of light illuminates the entire area, the crimson red eyes of the Sharingan are seen from the robe of the hooded figure.
Sasuke pulls out a slip of paper from his robe and unfolds it. The picture of a tan skinned shinobi with slicked back hair is on it, as well as well as a load of information.
“Chojun Miyagi...” Sasuke looks down a few more lines to the statistics of the shinobi and notices something. He squints his eyes in annoyance “Damn you Kabuto, what are you trying to get me into.” Another flash of lightning illuminates the area and Sasuke disappears in flash descending into Iwa.

I hope you guys enjoy this chapter, this is mainly a builder upper to the chapters to come, but I'm almost sure you'll all appriciate what is to come in three more chapters
