You have some good points here but I don't really think that madara got arrogant because he didn't become hokage and wanted to get aknowledged.

My version is that all his life was dedicated for the sake of his own clan. I think it all started when the Senju and Uchiha did that Truce agreement and founded konoha, Madara probably didnt want to have something to do with the Senju but because of the majority of his clan members voted for the truce agreement then he was kinda force to accept. Later on (when Hashirama was chosen hokage) he felt that there can be a danger for his clan, and because of that decided to go rogue and fight Hashirama for the sake of his clan (we see later on in history that the uchihas were indeed not fully trusted, even the 2nd made them to a kind of police force just to have a better overview over them). Madara's ego at that time probably got more important and he even (maybe) started to concider all the uchiha's that still accepted the truce agreement and kept on following Konoha's ideologies a traitors of the clan.

Edit: so in the end you can say he was a good guy for the Uchiha clan, but a bad guy for non-uchiha.

That's my opinion/thoughts about all of that

as for the thread itself - i think that Madara wanted the best for his clan and lost his way, im not sure about his perspective on peace. Itachi's warning holds true to whatever scenario you place behind it.

no madara lost his way, cause izuna gave up his eyes for nothing. and madara knew the peace treaty would lead the uchiha to utter end. thats why he lost his way cause they turned there backs on him. the village selected hashirama, and this was proof that madara knew they would pick him over him. thats why he left the village and went back to fight hashirama
