why exactly was itachi kept alive?

I rarely say this, but Itachi existing beyond the Bee, Naruto, and Nagato fight was just bad writing.

We didn't need Itachi to stay alive to clear his name, end Edo Tensei, or save Kabuto. Naruto could have done ALL of that!

Unless Itachi is about to say something that completely changes Sasuke's character, NOTHING HAPPENED THAT MADE THEM MEETING NECESSARY...

...AND Kabuto being converted by Itachi, someone he had NO HISTORY WITH, is just .... pointless.

Itachi is easily my favorite character, but horrible writing, I do not like this at all.

Simple answer: one simply cannot have enough itachi.
