IF YOU VOTE, COULD YOU AT LEAST LEAVE A COMMENT STATING YOUR GENDER AND WHICH OPTION YOU CHOSE? PRETTY PLEASE WITH SUGAR ON TOP?

I really should have made this thread a long time ago, but have been avoiding it just because it seems to be a really sensitive topic and lots of people get butt-hurt when I call him a male chauvinist outright.

It is my hypothesis that every single female character in Naruto can be reduced to either a love interest, a *** object, a damsel in distress, or has some stereotypical character flaw that makes them unlikable.

I'm curious to see what others think of that observation.

Do you think Masashi Kishimoto is sexist and why?

If you would, please include whether or not you are male or female in your post since not everyone has their gender displayed, because I feel that in this kind of conversation gender does matter.

Also, please, if you feel there is a character that does not fit into one of my categories, point it out.

Sexism, a term coined in the mid-20th century,[1] is the belief or attitude that one gender or *** is inferior to, less competent, or less valuable than the other. It can also refer to hatred of, or prejudice towards, either *** as a whole (see misogyny and misandry), or the application of stereotypes of masculinity in relation to men, or of femininity in relation to women.[2] It is also called male and female chauvinism.

Male chauvinism is a term used to describe the belief that men are superior to women. The term was widely used by the feminist movement in the 1960s to describe men who believe or display an attitude that women are inferior to men, speak to women as inferiors, or treat women negatively based solely upon their gender.[4]

Men are generally looked at as more of the fighting type and females are more soft, so i have no problem with the way his characters are displayed.
But the way Edo Madara embarrassed Tsunade was just ridiculous lol !

No guys, Kishi isn't sexist. He told me to tell you: "Quit making threads about me being sexist, lulz nerds." True story right there.

Because this is a violent manga. So less woman involved.

I don't think he's sexist. But really Kishi isn't good at making female characters.

Male, I think Kishimoto probably is but this sadly is true for many cultures/people through histrory. Even in most modern manga how often are females portrade equal to men?

I don't know if this is true but in an interview, Kishi said that he doesn't really understand women that well. Hence the reason why women characters don't really play a big role in the Naruto world.

Eastern and Western views are rather different, so his way of thinking is most likely common in Japan where as over here its seen as some what wrong.

Kishimoto-sensei himself has stated he's not good when it comes to portraying female characters.
Plus the ninja world has always been more of a man world than a woman world, it's just how it is. Men have always been potrayed as the fighters and women are the caretakers *shrugs*
Besides it's not like all the female characters in the manga are that weak. Temari, Tsunade (I don't care what people think of her, she's awesome) and Mei are a few examples of that.
But people have to be careful with calling him a sexist just because what some characters like Madara say about women.
Number one rule in writing: the opinions of characters doesn't always necessarily portray the author's own opinion.
Because it is perfectly possible to give a character an opinion that isn't the same as the author's. I thought this was well known?
By the way, I'm a girl

Agree. I used to be surprised after joining this forum and reading many threads. Your views is rather different and very interesting xd

The most surprise is Sakura being hated so much

In East Asia, her character is also a kind of "cute" haha xd
