Why do ppl underestimate jiraiya?

Please ask me how is he going to see Tobi let alone fight him if he disappers? All he needs to do is warp behind Jiraya, become solid and kill him. It took Konan had years years and years of intel on him and still couldn't beat him.

Jiraiya beat her in under a minute, easily, and she had info on his abilities because he trained her!

Jiraiya in sage mode would have the ability to sense danger, as well as sense chakra, and thus sneaking up on him would be a no go.

Jiraiya doesn't have the frog katas as far as manga facts go. If you reread the fight between Pain and Jiraiya he didn't get any of those distance shots like Naruto does. In fact he kept getting screwed over because he would miss them due to the paths shared vision.

Also I would like to point out that if you honestly believe Jiraiya can tie or defeat Itachi then you are in fact a fanboy. I like Jiraiya as much as the next guy, but I'm also reasonable. Jiraiya's worst trait is his genjutsu, and Itachi has already trolled Orochimaru, Deidara, Naruto, Sasuke, Kakashi, etc. with just genjutsu.

The data book states that j-man has a 3 in genjutsu, his stats are equal to itachi, Jiraiya was a very intelligent man, He knew alot about the sharingan and its techs for exampe when itachi used amaterasu to burn through the toad he instantly preceived it as amaterasu and sealed it.

How would Jiraya know about the sharingon it was never said that he fought any sharingon users. Itachi has a 5 in genjutsu Itachi's genjutsu > Jiraya's by a long shot. Amaterasu's not from the sharingon from the MS and Tobi dosen't even have that. This whole post is full of failed points.

Jiraiya is strong but imo he is more overrated than underrated.
You get people keep referring to the false hype that characters have given him even though the manga has made it clear that it was either out of respect for a sannin, a sensei or other intentions

I'm no fanboy, but I think he's underrated also. Being able to defeat 3 of the pain paths without any prior knowledge is quite a feat. If he had known that Nagato controlled all 6 of the pain paths then I think he could have defeated him, just like he himself said. I also don't believe we've ever seen Jiraiya go completely all out in a fight, he has more to offer than what we've seen.

Also...I think he could defeat Itachi. Yes, Itachi is much more proficient at genjutsu when compared to Jiraiya but I'm sure he is very efficient at being able to defend himself against it. Do you all seriously think that at the level Jiraiya is at that there isn't a possibility he couldn't defend himself from Itachi's genjutsu(Although it doesn't mean much, Itachi and Kisame opted not to face him in battle even with it 2v1. Kisame even noted that Jiraiya "was on a whole other level" when compared to himself and Kisame is pretty damn strong.)

You are definitely underrating him. Saying Itachi would stomp him is going a bit far don't you think? Itachi would have to pretty to pull out most of the stops to defeat him. The only way Gai would defeat him(potentially) is using all 8 gates then dying afterwards.

So as for Itachi and Gai, without 8 gates and Susanoo, Jiraiya would defeat them both.

Jiraiya is not beating Itachi. He is strong but people overrate him if you are putting him against Hashirama, Minato, Itachi, Tobi or Sasuke etc.

Base Jiraiya is low kage level and sage mode Jiraiya is mid kage level. He isn't invincible in sage mode either.
