Actually the Mayas never said anything about the ending of the world. Their calendar was made up of a specific year amount - something around more than 100 000 years or so, can't remember exactly - and when that time period was up (because they substracted years instead of adding them up) there was a new beginning. Plus they didn't count in leap years. Without them, the world should have ended somewhere last year in June or so. But obviously it didn't, because we're still alive.
So while this time period comes to an end in December, it only means that there will be a new beginning *shrugs*
And if not, well, then we're screwed I guess LOL
But no I don't believe that the world will end.
