how does covering the sharingan conserve chakra. yeah youre not seeing out of it, but it doesnt change the fact that its activated, so shouldnt it still consume chakra

I think it only takes up chakra when its being used. So when he covers it, he closes it, so it doesnt take up chakra.

He covers and shuts his eye because he cannot deactivate the Sharingan as he recieved it in that state from Obito.

Aha, forgot about that. I guess it's just to make him look cooler. Or as stated above, since he can't really see anything, he's not using it. Therefore it's not taking up chakra. :shrug:

Probably keeps his eye closed while it's concealed. Although it might mess up his eye in the process. I tried it before, not a good experience.

I'm sure I've read somewhere in manga that the reason he covering it is to save chakra since he can not inactivate it...

when you use sharingan for genjutsu or copying or analyzing it drain more chakra than while you just activate it... so I guess Not seeing anything with the eye saves some more chakra than the time you are seeing things with it
