it says on the naruto wikia that "Hashirama died shortly after the founding of Konoha in one of the many wars that were raging during this revolutionary era, but not before passing on the title of Hokage to Tobirama." so i dont think he died of age but now im curious to know as of who could have defeated him if he was able to beat madara????

Yes, he did. Hunter nins were after him and his team. They needed someone to stay behind to allow the others to get away. He was the one who did that.
