This is the same old guy who was struggling with Orochimaru to say that he'll beat Madara is beyond insane...the 3rd was clearly over-rated in my opinion, still powerful but way over rated...He wasn't even the strongest in the village I don't see how he would have defeated Itachi one on one

LOL, he didn't struggle with Orochimaru, but with Hashirama and Tobirama, he was outnumbered. He was tired and his chakra was low at that time that's why he failed to finish Orochimaru.

Hiruzen knew how to fight a sharingan user, if Might Guy knew it, so is Hiruzen. As for Susanno, LOL, Enma-Monkey King easily push the Nine Tails away from the Village, that power alone is enough to crush Itachi's Susanoo straight to Itachi's skull.

Beating Hashirama is enough evidence that Hiruzen will beat Itachi one on one.

all they see is the massive amount of destruction that is happening now and say "see the old characters never did anything like that!"

The clearest example of power scaling is this.
Elite anbu said it was "unbelieveable" he was able to cast such a high level water jutsu.. it's barely any water....
