Genjutsu is a technique similar to ninjutsu in terms of using chakra and hand seals, but unlike ninjutsu which attacks the body, Genjutsu manipulates the flow of chakra in the brain creating illusions and disrupting the senses.

Genjutsu is a technique, used to cause adverse effects such as sleep, stun, and even decreasing a target's abilities as well creating illusions that can cause physical pain.

How would one use genjutsu in battle?

You can use Genjutsu in battle by casting it on your opponent, trapping him in an illusion which can serve to stun him and/or inflict pain as he tries to break the genjutsu.

*I concentrate my chakra steadily and send it to his brain, using my chakra I try to manipulate his chakra flow, creating the illusion of more shrubs around us.* *his eyes seem to be filled with shock*

You have to control his chakra flow in his brain to a great level. Make him believe that there are actual shrubs there and not just a illusion. Make him think it is real.

*I once again start gathering my own chakra, when i have enough i focus it into his brain, controlling his chakra flow making it unstable. I disorder his view and hearing. I make him see a familiar rundowned home in the distance.*

Send your chakra into his brain once again and control the flow of his chakra. But this time control the flow so it fools his brain into thinking that you dissolve into sakura petals. Then make the petals rotate around his blocking his vision of the surroundings. This tech is taking the last tech a step further. In the last one you only manipulated his sense of the surroundings, in this you are doing that as well as manipulating his sense of your location as well.

*I focus my chakra and channel it into his brain, I manipulate the flow of his chakra and begin to disrupt it, carefully molding it, I instill visions of myself dissolving into sakura petals, I carefully manipulate his smell sense so that my scent is erased from him, Once again manipulating his sense of sound with my chakra, I create sounds of wind gust. After he falls under my genjutsu, I carefully manipulate his chakra into seeing the sakura petals swirl around him all while disrupting his depth and distance perception*

Nope. This technique only manipulates his sense of vision. Not his smell nor his hearing. You cannot do more than the technique allows you. Try again but this time focus only on manipulating his vision to fool him to thinking you disappeared and there are sakura petals around him.

Throw a paper bomb at the guy while making a hand seal. Change the flow of chakra in the brain of the person so that the paper bomb looks like a person. Make the person walk up to the person and make it seem that the person if real. Then make the bomb explode once the illusion gets close enough.

*I look at the guy and focus my chakra channeling into his brain disturbing his chakra flow, I then change the flow of his chakra and focus on his sense of sight, giving him a detailed view of my entire self. I then throw a paper bomb at him. He thinks its me going towards him*

The key to this technique is deception. Get the man in his comfort zone. Make him feel that everything is alright and the person walking up to him is his friend. This technique is less focused on simply changing the sense of sight but also the emotions to create a sense of calmness enabling you to move the paper bomb close enough.
