well the sharingan is a Kg of the uchiha clan it means copy weal eye it gives the members of the uchiha clan the ability to copy the movements of there opponents and predict there opponents next move(depending on which tomoe and what jutsu is being used) another ability is to enable the user to see chakra and distinguish it between different individuals, it also allows the user to know if there is a disturbance in thechakra of another person letting the uchiha know if the other person is under a gen. The third ability of the sharingan is enhanced gen for the user,
