Based on what I read so far why has sasuke's ability to manipulate amaterasu not been mentioned or the fact that A had to chop off his hand thinking he can attack here and there.
In my opinion it's underrated because it's capabilities have not fully been demonstrated, I mean if you read it's description and then see what's been done with it so far the two are not on par with each other and if you are cool with that then reconsider every jutsu's description and what that jutsu has actually done so far I'm sure you'll understand where I'm going with this
Ive another thread in mind therefore ill rectify the amaterasu confusion in another thread, will however say that it ignites whatever the eye focuses on As stated by Zetsu and backed by C;

Amaterasu doesnt travel. Once the user's eye is focused on the opponent it appears
Amaterasu has been sensed twice ironically by both people who knew itachi fairly well, but more importantly both were sensors, yes zetsu and nagato are sensors.
Anyway i agree amaterasu is overrated but the reason why its overrated is because its a deadly technique as described by the databook, Zetsu and Kabuto.
Description:
"The ones reflected in these eyes turn to ash!! A black world-destroying
conflagration that scorches all on heaven and earth!!"
The Uchiha clan, originally significant as "those with the fans which manipulate
fire", traditionally specialize in Katon jutsu, but there is a legendary jutsu
unknown outside the clan. This is "Amaterasu". The appearance of these flames are jet-black. The high temperature is like the sun, and one time touching it is the last. It is said that this is named after the Goddess of the Sun as it continues to burn for seven days and seven nights. However, the Mangekyou Sharingan is necessary to activate this jutsu, and for this reason there are not many who have learned this jutsu. Therefore, the details of this jutsu are yet unrevealed...

The reason why amaterasu is one of the best attacks is rather simply. Firstly it has no nature weaknesses. This is in relation to nature affiliation. Not even water will put it out. Secondly it burns for 7 days. Majority if not all jutsu's are used on a target once and its gone. With amaterasu it consistently burns the opponent for 7 days, unless they dispatch the area that amaterasu has hit otherwise they are a goner. Thirdly its not speed that is needed to evade amaterasu and this topic confirms that people dont understand the difference between speed and reaction time. Its reaction time and not speed that is needed to evade amaterasu, ill give you an example.
Usain Bolts is the fastest man on earth. If you watch the 100m often you'd see that he has hardly ever the first person to react to the gun. People alot slower than him have better reaction time and get out of the blocks alot quicker than him. Tyson Gay and Powell, usually react to the gun and get out of the blocks alot faster than usain bolts. They have the better reaction time, but bolts is the fastest.
Basically Gay or Powell have a better chance to evade amaterasu than Bolts if we were to make this an irl situation. Its reaction time and not speed. Do however believe that Minato possibly has the reaction time to evade amaterasu if he is looking into an uchiha's eyes like what A did.

It ends any fodder a kage that gets caught in Ama and dies=fodder, Ama is being spoken about as overrated vs 1337 nin not page filler nin fodder, like sakura.
Sasuke would be much better if he traded his emo for itachi's tactical, then Ama would be a threat to elite nin .
Well, like i've said it's not over at all since you can use kawarimi to escape from it(Bee did it, Sasuke also), but it's not easy obviously. It depends on how much you're skilled to do it.
Also i think that more you're far from the user of Amaterasu, more it will be easier for you to dodge it since you have much more time to see it coming. That's why Amaterasu is said to be a close range jutsu in the databook. It's much more efficient when you use it in close range like against Raikage also. Just take a look where Raikage was when he dodged it. He wasn't far from Sasuke at all:
Haha im on a cell phone so it lags sometime I didnt see the pic you posted. In the pic it showed Amaterasu on nagato before he could react or scream kinda like when Amaterasu hit danzo he didn't react or scream unless your saying the flames weren't on him either.

I agree with you. For the difference between "reaction time" and "speed" it's actually what i wanted to say, but i failed to explain it, so thanks.
But anyway i continue to believe that Amaterasu doesn't appear like you say. Of course it's an instant jutsu and land where the user focuses with his eyes, but about what Zetsu said you forget to mention he stated "it converges to one spot". Converge=travel from one point to another.
If you want i can show you the definition of it on this website:
You must be registered for see links
Like it's said here "converge"="approach an intersecting point". That means it travels from one point to another, but it's obviously really fast and rare are the people who can dodge it.
if minato gets hit his done w8 w8 w8 i know what will you say minato is too fast he cant get hit do you think minato will just keep teleporting or run and run like a rat? minato will just take off his clothes then ama is gone:sy::sy: minato will seal it just like j-man did:sy::sy: yes minato will take out that scroll while his burning
When i made this thread i didn't even wanted to talk about Minato. It was only to explain what i think about this jutsu. So your reply is really pointless and laughable.
Uchiha fanboyism is so strong here lol Ama is fire release, it does not spontaneously make someone burn with no chance of escape why would kish even make a skill like that and then make it available to a tactical genius like itachi, another thing amaterasu can't burn through even burn through garas sand shield, this is a highly overrated fire release.
I disagree with the people who said that Amaterasu ignites whomever the eye focuses on. The description of Amaterasu doesnt do it any justice as its just a mere exageration along with "hot as the sun". It only seems instant because it travels really quickly.
If it really was the case of it being ignited whenever an eye focuses on the opponent then shouldnt people like the Raikage have been burned instantly because Sasuke's eye was already locked towards him?

Also the fact that the Amaterasu missed Raikage means that it travels at a really high speed. But apparently Raikages V2 reflexes was much faster than the travelling speed of Amaterasu as it continues to travel whoever was behind Raikage, in this case the Samurai.

The best way to further explain it is through the use of a laser pen in real life.
You must be registered for see images
Like Amaterasu, the laser pen seems to be instant on wherever its targetted at. But if you target a laser pen at something thats fast enough to dodge then the laser pen simply lands on something thats behind the target.
First of all, you must know that i'm not discrediting Amaterasu when i make this thread. I'm only there to give my analysis about this jutsu that maybe people failed to notice.
I mean, i don't understand why Amaterasu is that overestimated when we're talking about a jutsu that didn't even killed "one" person in this manga apart maybe from fodders. Each times it was used, the opponent managed to dodge it. Not saying it was easy to do, but still:
- Sasuke manage to evade it a little bit, and when it touched him, he used kawarimi no jutsu from orochimaru
- When Killer-bee was touched, he also used kawarimi no jutsu to evade it.
These 2examples shows that even when you get touched by the flammes, it's not over at all. You can "simply" use kawarimi to escape from it.
- A managed to dodge it with his speed. That means also that speed is another method to escape from it, but no one is as fast as Raikage obviously except from Minato or Naruto and maybe some others we don't know.
- Killer-Bee has also shown recently that it was capable to attack the user before he uses it:

That shows that to use Amaterasu, there is a small preparation you need in order to concentrate a little bit before launching it. That's why experimented ninjas could notice it and prepare themselves to dodge it.
Amaterasu is an instant jutsu yes, but what people forget also to understand is that "it doesn't appear directly on the target you see" like people sometimes claim, but "it travels to reach this target". Zetsu said "it converges to a spot". Converge here means it lands to some point, so it travels. Even if it's fast obviously. And the scene with Raikage prove my point:
You must be registered for see images
Look carefully at this pic. At the start we can see that Amaterasu is where the Raikage is. If it appeared, it would have touched him at that time, which is not the case. Then the Raikage see it approaching and thanks to his speed, he dodges it easily at the last moment.
What should also enter into consideration is that "when the Raikage dodged the attack", Amaterasu continued to travel and reach the samurai who was behind:

That again shows that "it travels" and "not appear" in the contrary of the popular belief.
You can believe what you want, but i'm serious. I didn't made this thread for Minato, but only to explain what i think about this jutsu. Actually it's common sense that Minato could dodge Amaterasu easily. It wasn't needed to make a thread for that. I made this thread only to show that even if you're not as fast as Raikage or Minato, you can deal with Amaterasu(even if i agree it won't be easy). I only show how this technic is overrated or maybe people doesn't really understand how Amaterasu works
I used the laser pen as an example to show what Amaterasu is like.
Also if you read properly what I said then you'd know that I said "it seems instant because it travels really fast"
Here is when Sasuke uses Amaterasu on Danzo. If it really was the case of igniting on whomever the eye is locked then Danzo should've been hit with Amaterasu on the panel below Sasuke's eye. Yet it shows that Danzo has time to be aware that its coming towards him as you can tell with his facial expression.

It is only then at the next page that the Amaterasu lands on Danzo. Danzo didnt dodge it because he has slow reflexes than the on coming speed of Amaterasu.

yes minato can dodge but minato can get hit by it then after he gets hit??
he feels the surface of the sun w8 w8 i know what will you say minato will take of his clothes then no amaterasu am i right? minato will just seal it just like j-man do yes he will take out that scroll while his burning
Lol true... only a few can defend/ evade the move.... a person like say Tsunade would burn to death. Also Itachi didnt intend to kill sasuke... otherwise he be dead.
If he knows that an Amaterasu is imminent then yes he should be able to dodge it by teleporting with the FTG. But the reason why Danzo didnt doge Sasuke's Amaterasu was because he is slow and mainly because he didnt need to because he had Izanagi.
