So, I've been looking at some akatsuki threads recently and a lot of people have been saying Konan is the worst member there is. Some go on to say that she's only in the Akatsuki because she was friends with Yahiko and Nagato during the formation of the Akatsuki, but that wouldn't even matter, she could get in the Akatsuki with or without knowing anyone in there.
Let me first say, Konan is an S-Rank Kunoichi, and sorry but there's no databook I could find on her so I'll go without it.

Overall, Konan is NOT even near weak, and she wasn't accepted into the Akatsuki just because Yahiko and Nagato were in it. She was more than an amazing Kunoichi. Unfortunately seriously underrated and is probably one of the stronger members.
Sorry for the Analysis not being too long^^ There's no information on her Taijutsu/summoning/Genjutsu abilities.
Note: A decent amount of information I did get from the anime, because in the anime the fight between Tobi and Konan was extended. Not sure how much because I didn't read the manga chapters in which Tobi and Konan faught. Hopefully it's not too much? =\

Ninjutsu
Ninjutsu is Konans main form of fighting, she fights using paper origami, she can form paper weapons such as kunai, spears, etc. On top of that, she can change any piece of paper (or all) into whatever shape or colour she desires.
Konan uses Dance of the Shikigami (
When attacking enemies she uses papers spears, kunai and such as stated above. These paper attacks are much more stronger due to the fact that Konan hardens the paper at the points, making her paper as hard as steel.
Konan also has one other jutsu that surprises me, it's called Paper Chakram (
During the fight between Jiraya and Konan, Jiraya noted her abilities and beauty and complimented her by saying she's "One hell of a women"
During her fight with Tobi, Tobi underestimated her power, and due to this he lost his left eye through the use of izanagi and a part of his mask.

), a transformation technique which allows her to turn her entire body into paper, which she uses for multiple reasons, some of which consist of quick transportation, spying on enemies, wrapping bodies in paper leading to suffocation and etc. Also, while in this form she is resistant to fire attacks, because she always absorbed rain from the Rain village to counter fire style techniques.When attacking enemies she uses papers spears, kunai and such as stated above. ) This jutsu can be devastating if someone was to be hit by it. This jutsu is a is a disc-like object, and even if someone initially avoids the disc, she can turn it around due to her manipulating the paper and hit the enemy in the back, or even if he sees it coming, she can throw another one and have the two discs collide right near the enemy making a considerable impact. It's noted that Konan is able to manipulate two of these with ease.During the fight between Jiraya and Konan, Jiraya noted her abilities and beauty and complimented her by saying she's "One hell of a women"

Konan is actually VERY smart. Her most famous example of her intelligence is her fight with Tobi, in which she uses the Paper Person of God Technique (
Another great example of her intelligence is with her paper clones. Due to Konan being able to manipulate and change the colour of paper, she's able to make an exact replica of herself which she can control from a distance. If the paper clone gets hurt it can turn back into regular paper in which Konan could also use to her advantage seeing as how the enemy thinks the clone is done for, she can use the remains of it to even attack her enemy. Pretty cool if you ask me. Also she hid paper bombs in her clone to make it even more of a hidden threat to an enemy.
Konan studied Tobi and deciphered Tobis abilities. She then figured out a counter his ability in order to find the perfect way to kill him. (little did she know he had Izanagi).
Also, another small intelligence indicator. Konan was the first to realize the significance behind the "hop in" and "hop out" system Jiraya created for them (Konan, Nagato, Yahiko)

As I said earlier, in her childhood, Konan quickly learned how to infuse chakra into paper and how to incorporate paper into her main ninjutsu. Clearing up the question of "Does Konan need chakra to manipulate paper?" (Yes).
