No he couldn't have. You say he could have easily beaten him, if that was the case why did he fear him? As for the answer, I'm not too sure, he probably knew Itachi was a dangerous man. He could have leaked information about the atrocities that Danzo had put him through. Itachi was extremely powerful too, so he also feared his power.

I mean in battle in the anime when i watched sasuke genjutsu danzo and itachi appeared danzo was ready to shit before he realized he was in genjutsu

Itachi was aware that Danzo possessed those ability's and itachi is incredibly intelligent. Danzo most likely feared Itachi's intelligence.
