Actually nobody knows the answer nor is anybody twisting anything. If we were to go by the databook entry for the yata mirror it says "A spirit weapon without a physical form with the power to change everyone of its attributes, allowing it to alter its attributions of the attack rendering the attack ineffective". Just like how you said if there was an exception it would be stated, same can be said about the yata mirror
