He wouldn't defeat the likes of Nagato, Tobi or Itachi though.

I can see him beating everyone else though, although some could defeat him as well, like Kakazu, Sasori, and Kisame.

thank you, the fools saying troll i simply laugh at as they have no intellect. Most make judgements based off the Sasuke and Deidara fight, which has no relation to these match-ups.

And is Genjutsu the only thing Itachi is capable of? How would Deidara counter Amaterasu? How would be blow up Itachi with Susanoo protecting him? I for one feel that piece of metal on his eye would be of no use against Tsukuyomi.

And now Pain. What about Chibaku Tensei? What about the large scale shinra tensei? Even if some of the paths got beat up they can always heal thanks to the Naraka Path. Pain would beat Deidara before he got the chance to yell 'Katsu'.

For that matter I even think Sasori and Konan (given time to prepare) can defeat him.

The only members he can definitely defeat are Hidan and Zetsu and perhaps Kakuzu and Kisame (dunno abt these two though)

but you said without prior knowledge, meaning he doesnt know anyone elses techs either so just as easily as you could say he gets on his clay bird and starts a bombing run, i can say kisame could lock him in the water sphere and wreck him easily, or itachi could very easily get him in genjutsu, or hidan get in one little scratch and its really over. With your scenario of no prior knowledge, 6 paths pein is the strongest simply because preta can absorb any of the others ninjutsu, hidan couldnt kill the paths since they are dead bodies reanimated as puppets, and im pretty sure almighty push could quite easily dispatch deidara since he wouldnt know to flee a few miles away to be out of range. The only formidable one for pein in that scenario is itachi, and i say that only under the assumption that since their rinnegans are connected then if itachi can genjutsu one and affect them all, then he wins.

1) Kisame trapping him wouldn't be smart, bombs in a closed environment

2) Hidan remains a close range fighter with no special ninjutsu, it wouldn't matter

3) Itachi can start off with genjutsu, but Deidara also invented a scope to see thru genjutsu
