The problem with the theory is that it doesnt really make sense after a while. Kabuto can just stay there and nothing else can occur. Even if he dies, the edo tensei wont wear off.

Secondly, it might be the fate of him never finding his true self

From what I've dug up, EMS does not lose its sight. Hence why Madara was able to use Izanagi with no cost, I reckon. EMS is supposed to not lose its light no matter what Ability you use.

Itachi is basically forcing Kabuto to release the edo tensei. That is the destiny Itachi set for Kabuto - he must choose to accept it

Notice Itachi says 'you are the one who will decide it', he is literally saying to Kabuto ''accept releasing the edo tensei as your destiny and end the loop''

I believe Kabuto can break Izanami with the following options :

(1) Ending Edo. And when he ends Edo there goes Itachi. Then we will see Kabuto vs Sasuke

(2) Interfiarence in either Kabuto or Itachi chakra flow much like what J-Man taught Naruto when one is trapped ina genjutsu. Hence reason why Itachi warned Sasuke to stay away ie not interfere. Since Itachi mentions that Kabuto destiny is in his hands which also effects Itachi and reason why in last panel Itachi has hands on Kabuto forehead (speculation on my part)

To those saying that Sasuke could just stab Kabuto or that Kabuto could simply wait it out, the time he is in the genjutsu is most likely not literal.
A perfect example is when Kakashi got caught in Itachi's genjutsu, it would of felt like weeks if not years for Kakashi, yet the jutsu itself only lasted a few seconds at most.
Sasuke coming to aid his brother (or whatever he was planning on doing) is most likely apart of the loop too.
