i personally think the gold wwill be able to break itachi's susanoo and when he was able to use the gold sand he found out that his mother's spirit protected him which made him stronger.

Gold sand is harder and heavier than Regular Sand but it is slower too due to it's heavy? It worked against 2nd Mizukage because of plot no Jutsu. It is his jutsu's weakness. But about vs itachi. Gold sand is not really helping. Even if it is able to destroy susano'o,(BTW Yata Mirror couldnt be destroyed.) If you are fighting against Itachi, Susano'o is the last thing you should worried. He has plenty of tricky moves. If he is using his susano'o which has legendery weapons. You screw up.
