Sasori is immune to Genjutsu (general speaking)

It is possible, in a manga. Real world logic does not apply and it specifically says that a brain is required for genjutsu to work. You can’t manipulate the flow of chakra in the brain,if there is no brain manipulate.Nothing suggests that his heart takes over the brain's functions, at least literally ( no cranial nerves). Kishi would have stated that if that was the case, and i see no reason why he wouldn't.

But in the end it does. It takes the brain's primary functions, though in a different way, and contains Chakra, so there's everything a Genjutsu needs. Izanagi and Izanami don't influence cranial nerves either, yet they're considered Genjutsu, which implies that Genjutsu is not only based on nerves and the brain.

In the end Sasori is a condradiction in terms, both ways are possible, and no way is a 100% correct. In my oppinion Genjutsu works, in yours it doesn't. Have a good night.

Sasori has no Cranial nerves

He lost alot of his senses because of this, eg smell, touch ... How he maintained sight etc, up to kishi to explain

BUT.. he clearly has no brain, so he obviously can't be affected by it..

I don't get how this is arguable... what some of you are doing are given your own opinion on how the ninja combat art : Genjutsu , works...

I think genjutsu can work for the share fact he has both emotions & can manipulate chakra

if you realise, ino can now think in the other persons body?

i think it needs to be stated again that genjutsu is when you send chakra into your opponents physical nervous system to manipulate their chakra and distort their senses, thus creating illusions around them. now that said sasori does have a minimum of sight and hearing even though he lacks a nervous system in his puppet body, he still has a capacity to take in information around him and process that, essentially with that living core that contains his chakra/consciousness acting like a brain as floriglori said. whats debatable is how sasori interprets information and if that information can be disrupted by inserting chakra into that core, if at all possible, in any case it would be a different level of genjutsu and hard to achieve i believe

As long as there is a source that distributes chakra & controls its use it can be disrupted or placed under genjutsu

Kishi however didn't explain everything to well, and sasori has found a way to maintain
1) sight,
2) Sound

Those are just about the only unexplainable things... But it simply has to do with the fact that it's a fiction story.. where someone can make themselves into a puppet, and someone has blue skin and looks like a shark... We can't make sense of any of it.. But what is clear, is how genjtusu works.

Yeh, I think mental energy is embedded into their dna. It would explain why the Edo's have all their past memories etc since Dna shouldn't be able to carry memory information.
As for the genjutsu question, I would really need to find out more about how Sasori works. As of now though, ill say he is immune to it.

my understanding is that his core [i wont call it a heart because thats too definitive for me] harbors his physical energy [chakra] and his mental energy [ consciousness] like owarji expressed with that ino reference. so it wouldnt inhibit his mental capacity in terms of anticipation and comprehension being in that form like it doesnt limit ino's mental capacity forcing her consciousness into another body. what im really interested in is what the core is made of, and if it can have the ckakra in it manipulated by an outside source , but the whole concept of how that core works is very intriguing

It probably has to do with combining spiritual energy and physical stamina, as owarij pointed out.But I'm leaning more towards Sasori being special and Kishi making the manga more colorful e.g. nobody questions why Kisame looked like freakin' shark...Did a human really get frisky with a shark or did kishi just make it up.Your call...

Not really, Izanagi works regardless of the 5 senses. Izanami could be some type of genjutsu which allows you to target the opponents mind, find out their history, make them believe something else, transfer their memories into someone else *cough* Madara to Tobi *cough* or something like that. That wouldn't require the 5 senses.
