His most treasured subordinate was Kimimaro, but when he died Orochimaru didn't even flinch. He even said he didn't care about Kimimaro any and that all he wanted was Sasuke.

Kabuto is the only person who EVER spend any significant time with Orochimaru and DIDNT become a lab experiment. Im sure he "cared" for him. And I'm sure he "cared" for his parents, the supposed reason for him trying to become immortal.
