There could be many reasons why he chose to give it to nagato, although that is irrelevant because he activated already.
Btw where in the manga does it say uzumaki have loads of chakra reserves, because from what ive gathered they have special/powerful chakra, no different to the uchiha
the uchiha clan blood line are built to use the sharingan.We saw that kakashi could not use his base sharingan for certain period even his MS.Sasuke use his base sharingan and MS longer time.Ems from we seen sasuke donot look tired when using his susano.Susano look like his base ems skill ,which he can spam easily
Madara stole Hashirama's power, Senju+Uchiha=Sage, Rinnegan was the sages most known attribute the writings all over the wall, and you don't need a Sharingan to read it
Uzushiogakure had been destroyed. Nagato was an easy target. Was young so he could be manipulated. TBH I reckon it could've been another Uzumaki or Senju but the opportunity to use Nagato presented itself so they just used him.
As of now, nobody would be able to prove wether or not you need Senju dna. There just isn't enough info. But from what I can see, it looks more likely that it is not needed.
Madara looked like a young man when he fought Hashirama, and unlocked his rinnegan before his death. He knew a young Nagato, which means he would have lived to be about 65-70 years old. That means it took like 35 years for the senju dna to kick in. Doesn't seem right to me. I think it has something to do with being close to death.
Except you are wrong. Senju DNA has nothing to do with the Rinnegan. Look at Izanagi for an example. You don't really need DNA to use it but instead you need both powers from Senju and Uchiha. The elder son carries the same DNA as his brother since they both have the same father(and mother?) Each was just given one half of his power. Which means in reality you need both powers to actually use that ability. The Rinnegan is something different. According to Kabuto. The reason why he gave Madara more of Hashirama's DNA was so that Madara could actually use that power. He was basically trying to combine two people into one in which he did according to himself.

It wouldn't make sense for the Rinnegan to need Senju "DNA" because according to legend, the Uchiha inherited the SO6P eyes and the Senju inherited the SO6P body. Both powers are needed to use "creation of all things". This means that the Rinnegan is most likely a natural evolution of the Uchiha's sharigan but needs the power of the Senju body to actually use that ability. A big hint to this is Kabuto's reaction when using Nagato and him seeing Madara drop the huge meteor out of nowhere. I think its obvious that the meteor is most likely some type of form of "creation of all things". That is thanks to Hashirama's DNA/powers. Kabuto was excited because he knew what it meant after seeing that meteor appearing out of thin air.

What sense does that make? If one inherits the SO6P body and the other inherits the eyes then why would you need Senju DNA to get the Rinnegan? Explain that to me. Hashirama fought not only the EMS but the 9tails as well and your saying he wouldn't survive the EMS+Rinnegan? Reread the entire fight vs Madara and the 5 kages and look what the Mokuton is doing and tell me that it can't stand up against the EMS+Rinnegan.

You do know the same thing can be said with Hashirama's powers and why they are so special. Why is it that no other Senju can do with Hashirama can do? Why does Tobi claim Madara vs Hashirama was a destined battle. Why does he claim that Sasuke vs Naruto is a destined battle? Could it possibly be that they are the reincarnations of the Elder and Younger sons of the SO6P. Madara was said to have the strongest chakara ever seen in by an Uchiha, the 9tails states that Madara chakara was even more sinister and powerful then his own. Which tells you he was special above his own clansmen even beyond just the MS/EMS. Now look at Hashirama and connect the dots. They are obviously the reincarnations of the sons of the SO6P which explains why their fight was going to happen and why Naruto is destined to fight Sasuke throughout this entire series. Also here is a fun but very telling theory. Nagato's Rinnegan was originally Madara's Rinnegan. Which explains how Madara knew Nagato and which also explains Tobi's statement about giving Nagato the RInnegan as he is portraying that he was Madara.
Thanks. I'm just using basic logic here with this. It would make no sense at all that the Uchiha would need Senju DNA to gain the Rinnegan. It clearly states that one brother gain the power of the sages eyes and the other gained the power of the sages body. When you combine both you get "creation of all techniques/things" So why would sharigan need Senju DNA to gain the Rinnegan. It makes zero sense at all. If you pay attention to the Manga and whats known about Madara then you can see how it is symbolic of him being the first known person to unlock the Rinnegan. Him and Izuna are said to be the first ones to unlock the MS. Not only that, he is the first person to gain the EMS.
Fact when the 2 sons separated from their Fathers clan to form their own their DNA also separated and merge with other DNA,as Tobi ones said Uchiha and Senju blood thine out, Their DNA thine out as powerful as The First Hokage was He was weak next to His ancestor the Second Son, the same goes of Madara,weak next to the First Son. Genetic drift away from the SO6P is what has ben happening to both clans. But now both clans are on the doorstep of extinction, Tsunade a 50+ last Senju and Sasuke a 17 year old Uchiha, the last of their kind. Its over for both clans.
Than the real question would be how to unlock the Rinnegan. Perhaps the Sage meant for it to be this way; a stone tablet leading people closer and closer to achieving the Rinnegan. The Sage said that the Juubi would one day be revived if I'm correct - maybe he wanted to create the 2nd SOT6P to stop it. It's kind of faulty logic but eh
