Say Lee fought Neji instead of Gaara in the preliminaries, who would win?

I'd say Lee, because in the finals Neji could barely keep up with Naruto and his Kyuubi chakra, and there's no doubt in my mind Lee was faster, much faster than Naruto then. Also, I feel Lee would have won against Gaara if it wasn't for plot, but the same could be said with Neji when he fought Naruto.

None of Neji's action have done a thing to demonstrate to us that he can react to Lee at Gate 5 speed. He has a couple of speed feats which at best, would empower him to maneuver with 3 gates Lee MAX. Even that's giving him too much credit.

As OhReary said, he isn't, and can't rotate forever, as he would run out of chakra. People who said Neji could possibly win, you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

Might Gai himself said "The secret to defeating Neji was the high speed combo." You are supporting Neji with baseless claims. Lee would win low difficulty if starting in gates, otherwise mid difficulty starting in base w/out weights.

Deff, I don't even think he would have needed to go all the way to the 5th gate. I mean, Gaara should have lost when lee opened the 1st gate, but lee flinched, allowing Gaara to use a sand substitution in an instant.

Yeah, but you never know. Even if Lee didn't flinch Gaara would still protected himself with his gourd. If Gaara used his gourd to protect himself the second time, then he could have done that the first time.

But anyways, Lee almost had that fight in the bag. If he was matched up against ANYONE else, he would have won. It was just terrible luck that he got matched up against the strongest participant at the time
