Personality
Genryusai is an old Shinobi compared to those around him and he is often referred to as an old man. Alot of his generation of Shinobi are dead, less active or completely retired, leaving Genryusai to often complain about being the last of his generation and about these "Youngsters". Although when he complains he greatly over-exaggerate his position saying things like "Genryusai, the great Shinobi of the strongest generation" or "Genryusai the last standing from a generation of Heroes". Yamamoto doesn't do much in his old age but complain about and lecture the younger generation of Shinobi.
Genryusai can also be very humorous at times and mocks the people around him in a light hearted manner. This humorous side of him is often shown after a heavy complaining session.
Genryusai also has a soft spot for young females around him, his personality completely shifts when he is around them. He pays alot of attention to them, while ignoring older or uglier women, causing them to be insulted. He is also very honestly blunt.

Background Info.
Genryusai was born in Sunagakure to a large family who was classed as a Shinobi military family as every member of the families history had been involved in Shinobi forces. Genryusai's great grandfather helped build the Sunagakure military force up to what it is today. He was an amazing Shinobi that was unmatched in the family, until Genryusai came. The Yamamoto family also had a tendency to birth men, all members born from the family have been male since the generation of Genryusai's great grandfather, who had a sister.
This family history led Genryusai's future to have been laid out for him, he was enrolled in the Ninja academy at a young age and quickly made a good impression. His teachers praised him for being the best in his class and his fellow students looked up to him in awe of his talent. Although Genryusai didn't care, not because he was cocky or rude, but because the ninja arts wasn't his focus. He didn't want to become a Shinobi, but was being forced by his parents.
Genryusai graduated as a Genin and quickly passed the Chuunin exam, being the youngest Chuunin of his generation. As a Chuunin Genryusai took part in many battles and mission and built a name for himself around the Shinobi World along with his younger brother, Yamamoto Sasakibe Chojiro. Chijiro had also become a Chuunin in a similar time scale that Genryusai had and the two where an almighty force to behold when they fought together. The siblings wore a black Kimono and long white coats, these became apart of their reputation. It wasn't long before Genryusai was promoted to Jounin level and given the responsilibities of a Genin team.
His team consisted of three shinobi, Kyoraku Shunsei, Ukitake Jushiro and Unohana Retsu. He worked hard with the three Genin training them and all three came to be a powerful force in Sunagakure, Retsu being a notable healer and training a large number of medical students in Sunagakure.
The team went on many missions and it wasn't long before his three students began to grow up, eventually becoming Jounin themselves. By this time Genryusai had aged a lot and wasn't being sent on mission as much. He became part retired to do what he really wanted, he started to travel, when he saw something he liked he would draw or paint it. After several years of travelling Genryusai become equally as famous for his art work as he was for his Shinobi prowess.
Genryusai became content with his life style, he grew old in a peaceful slumber of ignorance to the Shinobi world and thought the day he would have to return to his old lifestyle would never come, but he saw wrong. As Genryusai was preparing for his afternoon tea, consisting of a large bottle of Sake, he was interrupted. Sunagakure messenger ninja had approached him and summoned him back to the village.
When Genryusai returned he was informed of some grave news, two of his previous students had defected from the village. They where followed and confronted by his brother, who they had killed.
Genryusai was deeply hurt by this news. He continued his travels, before leaving his promised that he would capture his previous students.
Genryusai searched for his previous students. He eventually found Jushiro and Shunsei hiding in a small village in a unknown country. The three engaged in battle which destroyed the whole village and the surrounding forest.
Those who observed the battle declared it "The opening of Hell" because a large portion of the battle consisted of Katon Jutsu.
Genryusai defeated his former students, bringing them back to Sunagakure where they where sentenced to death. Durring the day of the execution Retsu came to find him to pleed with him to save her fellow students. He was on his way out of Suna. She begged him to stay, for her sake, but he declined
and left Sunagakure, declaring this would be the last time he would be seen in Suna. The Kazekage granted him pardon due to his great service to the village.
Genryusai took on the name Minuko and worked as a guard for the Minami family. He became very close to the daughter of the family, her name was Akiko and he saw her as a member of his family. She also reminded him of his student Retsu. Akiko was fired from his job at the Minami family for influencing Akiko by telling her his stories of the ninja world.
He traveled back to Sunagakure because of the rumours of numourous attacks on the village by a group called Akatsuki, he rejoined the ranks of the Shinobi force of Sunagakure to prevent the Akatsuki attacks. This is when Akiko traveled up to Suna. He took the young girl under his wing and trained her as his last student.
