Hey guys, I wanna start up a discussion about the five most INFLUENTIAL characters in the series. This does not mean powerful at all, this is in terms of how great an impact they have had on the ninja world. List your top five and your reasoning.

Tailed beasts.

(They're all highly powerful and influential so I'm knocking them off the list to see some more creativity.)



My top five would have to be...

1. Tobi - He trained Itachi, helped slaughter the Uchiha clan, started a war, has control over most of the tailed beasts, is manipulating Sasuke into something horribly evil and dangerous, and is responsible for starting and leading Akatsuki. While it may not be true, he also may be the reason Nagato had the rinnegan. Hugely powerful man, he's manipulated and controlled entire countries with ease.

2. Jiraiya - He trained Nagato, Minato, and Naruto plus got most of the intel on Akatsuki and their movements which is the reason the organization fell, Naruto defeated Pain, and the ONLY reason that Tobi doesn't have all of the bijuu yet. All of his students are extremely monumental in their own rights as well.

3. Hashimara - He founded Konoha, the strongest of the villages, controlled tailed beasts and offered them to countries as peace offerings, made peace with the Uchiha, and is still a huge corner stone of this series despite never appearing in it minus edo tensei. On top of this he trained Hiruzen who went on to train the Sannin who all went on to train highly skilled students.

4. Orochimaru - Only slightly behind Hashimara, Orochimaru has been the main villain throughout the series and despite his death his effects still linger. He left behind countless amounts of research and data, one that can apparently change the course of the war, perfected edo tensei which is playing a huge role in the current war, set Kabuto up to become one of the most powerful and important characters in the series and he is the one that figured out the sharingan's evolution into the rinnegan.

5. Kabuto - Disregarding his currently stupidly OP abilities, Kabuto is one of the most influential ninja. He has intel on everyone, hell, he's the main reason we're learning new things at the moment (rinnegan evolution, multiple sages, character origins, etc) and he probably even knows who Tobi is. What's more important is his perfected edo tensei, Orochimaru perfected it but Kabuto made it godlike - he can create edos that can kill tens of thousands of people with meteors. On top of this he's currently powering up the 100,000 zetsu army which will no doubt have a large effect on the out come of the war.
(Although he still creeps the f**k out of me!!! :flaw

I didn't find any of them to essential. Sasori really did next to nothing and most of the jinks had little impact on the story line (Bee had the most and his main accomplishment thus far was training Naruto) and Hanzo pretty much just named the sannin.

I think the most influential ninja from "modern times" (no Sage of 6 Paths) is Madara. Not only did his feud with Hashirama define a generation, but he also co-founded the leaf village. His rinnegan eyes were given to Nagato, he influenced the beginnings of Akatsuki, his plan is being carried out by Tobi, he was the acting Mizukage for a generation, and everybody knows who he is. This whole fourth ninja world war is basically a war of everybody vs Madara's plan, and thousands of ninja and samurai have already died for it. Madara, his plan, and people like Tobi following that plan after Madara died have directly lead to: The death of 8 modern jinchuuriki (1-7 tails and Kushina), the death of the fourth hokage, death of the fourth mizukage, creation of Akatsuki, the death of Hanzo, the death (and resurrection) of the fifth Kazekage (Gaara), the rampage of Kurama in the leaf village which itself eventually lead to the Uchiha massacre, and the list goes on and on.

Hashirama is a close second. He set up the hidden village system and distributed many of the tailed beasts through the world (Where Akatsuki later had to hunt them down again). Also, his cells have been stolen and used for many purposes. His influence on Zetsu and Edo Madara are major components in this war. Hashirama's influence is large but mostly historical. He helped set the stage for all events since that time, but hasn't played as active a role in subsequent events as Madara did.

Itachi and Danzo are next on the list. It's hard to rank the two of them, because Itachi was acting on Danzo's orders when he massacred the Uchiha clan. The Uchiha massacre set much of the events of the manga into action: Creating Sasuke as a villan and eventually sending him to Orochimaru (and then Sasuke killing Orochimaru, Deidara and eventually Itachi himself, and leading to the creation of the new Kabuto). Danzo obviously was working with Orochimaru in some important areas of research, and his relationship there might have been a reason why the Uchiha massacre was ordered in the first place (to get more sharingans for research and Izanagi). Danzo also set up the Root organization, which held significant power (both political and military) in the leaf village.

Orochimaru also shows up on my list. In addition to killing the fourth kazekage and the third hokage, creating the entire sound village, setting up an alliance and invading konoha to *almost* start a world war, he also helped to spread the use of Edo Tensei, Researched Hashirama and various other kinjutsu that are playing a vital role in the war, Trained and medically enhanced Sasuke and Kabuto, and set Kabuto up to become an even more powerful villain after Orochimaru died. Orochimaru is probably the reason why Jiraya became a hermit instead of becoming Hokage, a big part of the reason why Jiraya left the village (in part to keep track of Orochimaru's criminal activities), a big part of the reason why Tsunade did decide to become Hokage too. Without Orochimaru, the leadership of the leaf village would be completely different.

I don't know who to list fifth. Minato seems like an interesting choice, but his influence really only changed Naruto's life and didn't really change the village as a whole. It would be interesting to see what would have happened to Orochimaru's invasion if Minato was still alive, or whether the Uchiha massacre would have been allowed to happen if Minato was still alive, or if Akatsuki would have been able to capture Kushina if she was still the 9-tails Jinchuuriki instead of Naruto. We'll never know what could have been if Minato hadn't sacrificed himself to stop the fox. We also don't really know what effect Minato's actions played on Tobi's long-term plans.

and the reason Konoha is not destroyed.

Made the Peace between Uchiha and Senju Clan.
