If he was that powerful, why did he rely on Itachi so much? And if Kurama's attack possibly was one of Fugaku's coup d'etat attempts, why didn't the other Uchiha's help "Tobi?"

I believe this at one point, I have to admit, but it's not possible. Tobi shown his face or reveal himself to Sasuke after Sasuke defeated Itachi. Sasuke would have recognize him and said something like, "You." Also, instead of wanting to know about the secrets of Itachi and other stuff. He would be asking Tobi, "Why," and taking his revenge on him for putting Itachi in that situation.

Why did Tobi use Pain to start Akatsuki? Because he likes watching other people do his dirty work.

I would really like to know why the assumption of Tobi being Sasuke's and Itachi's dad is made. Is there some ground to it or so?
Either way, it's highly unlikely that Tobi is their dad. Sasuke clearly saw his father dead next to his mother. I see no reason why Tobi would be their dad - that's just something that doesn't make sense to me *shrugs*

When the Kyuubi attacked there were no Uchiha's in aid of the leaf.

Yes there were. The reason why they were moved to the edge of the village was because people thought they were responsible for the attack.
