I think the 3rd hokage needs to be put with Jiraiya he influence of peace resolutions were what made him well known dispite being very powerful.

Also hanzo was very well known he had his own plans of untieing the shinobi world.

also the 2nd holkage he made alliances with the lighting village and started the uchiha police force.

get rid of kabuto,

Thread is most influential... as in adding to the Naruto story?
Itachi, Jiriaya, Orochimaru, Tobi, and MINATO.

Come on now, Minato is pretty much the reason why Naruto is a jinchurriki and mainly how the story goes.

Itachi is why sasuke was hungry for power and left Konoha.

These are the 2 main things that have happened in the story of Naruto

I don't think people understand what the OP meant, or I may have got the wrong idea. Im sure he is talking about who had the biggest influence on the ninja world, not on the series. Minato got credit for stopping a ninja war, that alone had a BIG effect on the Ninja world. He gave Naruto the 9 tails which is helping him to stop a war. That alone had a BIG effect on the Ninja world. Itachi rid the world of the strongest, most hate driven clan to stop a possible war from happening. That alone had a BIG effect on the Ninja world. Killer Bee taught Naruto how to control the 9 tails chakra. That alone had a BIG impact on the current war.

People who have caused/stopped a war have had a BIG effect on the Ninja world.

Tobi plays a "pivotal" role here for many people, but particularly Minato and Itachi, such that I wonder if my inclusion of Tobi leads me to leave them out. Without Tobi, Minato and Itachi never play the critical roles of hero, nor do they play the critical roles of shaping the future of the two main characters, Naruto and Sasuke. Thus, I ponder if a list that includes Tobi and also includes Minato/Itachi is just redundant or simply reflects the person's view of that shinobi's singular contribution while accounting for the role of Tobi by taking into account how significant he has been across a number of events. I suppose the same might go for Nagato. Just something that came across my mind, not necessarily correct of course by any means, and I'm curious to peoples' contrasting opinions. :)

Peace

Well if we use your way of thinking, then Hashirama wouldn't be known without Madara, Itachi won't be influential without Danzou the lists goes On .

I think when we think of influential ninja we have to think of ninja who have had a really big impact on the manga, without them the main story won't be alive. For example the main story is involving Tobi , war , Naruto etc... Other stories are Hinata's love for Naruto , Sasuke's hate .

I voted for Jiraiya, Itachi, Tobi, Hashirama, and Gaara.

Hashirama- introduced the will of fire ideology. Konoha is only what it is because of him.

Tobi- the best manipulator in the series, playing several s-rank criminals like puppets in order to achieve his ends. he's manipulated Kisame, Nagato, Sasuke (and imo Madara), he's fooled Minato, Itachi, and the whole ninja world into thinking he's madara. he's collected 7 of the tailed beasts, and he's taken on the whole shinobi world, the first war of it's kind.

Jiraiya- he's had a lot of ripple effects in the series, by his teachings to Minato,Nagato, and Naruto.

Itachi- seems to me like the kind of guy who always makes a huge impact on whoever he meets. His clan viewed him as the next big thing, the konoha elders viewed him as a perfect tool, Tobi had to be on guard around him, he kept Akatsuki at bay for a while, plus his effects on Kakashi (spurred him to awaken his ms), Naruto (taught him the importance of trusting his friends, and Sasuke.

Gaara- he's had an impact on lots of people. Firstly, he drove Naruto to become way stronger, and i think he had a little effect on Shikamaru as well, who was threatened by Gaara twice with Naruto which i think spurred him to 'sacrifice' himself against the sound shinobi. Then, his impact on the sand village, on the other kage at the kage summit, and he united the whole shinobi army.

Tobi started the 4th Great Ninja War,has control over 7 tailed beasts,he had control over the Nine-Tails for a while and he controlled the Fourth Mizukage. So i think he is at least in the top 3.

Hey guys, I wanna start up a discussion about the five most INFLUENTIAL characters in the series. This does not mean powerful at all, this is in terms of how great an impact they have had on the ninja world. List your top five and your reasoning.

Restrictions:
SO6P
The sage's sons.
Naruto.
Sasuke.
Ton ton.
Tailed beasts.

(They're all highly powerful and influential so I'm knocking them off the list to see some more creativity.)

My top five would have to be...

1. Tobi - He trained Itachi, helped slaughter the Uchiha clan, started a war, has control over most of the tailed beasts, is manipulating Sasuke into something horribly evil and dangerous, and is responsible for starting and leading Akatsuki. While it may not be true, he also may be the reason Nagato had the rinnegan. Hugely powerful man, he's manipulated and controlled entire countries with ease.

2. Jiraiya - He trained Nagato, Minato, and Naruto plus got most of the intel on Akatsuki and their movements which is the reason the organization fell, Naruto defeated Pain, and the ONLY reason that Tobi doesn't have all of the bijuu yet. All of his students are extremely monumental in their own rights as well.

3. Hashimara - He founded Konoha, the strongest of the villages, controlled tailed beasts and offered them to countries as peace offerings, made peace with the Uchiha, and is still a huge corner stone of this series despite never appearing in it minus edo tensei. On top of this he trained Hiruzen who went on to train the Sannin who all went on to train highly skilled students.

4. Orochimaru - Only slightly behind Hashimara, Orochimaru has been the main villain throughout the series and despite his death his effects still linger. He left behind countless amounts of research and data, one that can apparently change the course of the war, perfected edo tensei which is playing a huge role in the current war, set Kabuto up to become one of the most powerful and important characters in the series and he is the one that figured out the sharingan's evolution into the rinnegan.

5. Kabuto - Disregarding his currently stupidly OP abilities, Kabuto is one of the most influential ninja. He has intel on everyone, hell, he's the main reason we're learning new things at the moment (rinnegan evolution, multiple sages, character origins, etc) and he probably even knows who Tobi is. What's more important is his perfected edo tensei, Orochimaru perfected it but Kabuto made it godlike - he can create edos that can kill tens of thousands of people with meteors. On top of this he's currently powering up the 100,000 zetsu army which will no doubt have a large effect on the out come of the war.
(Although he still creeps the f**k out of me!!! :flaw:)

Give me your thoughts, opinions, and rankings guys. I'm looking forward to it. ^^

I dont want to sound negative or rude but I dont agree with your list  Its not so much the ninja you have picked, but your reasonings as to why they are influential. To me, influential would be people like hashirama, tobirama and hiruzen. Hiruzen was the student of both hashirama and tobirama and both had a great influence on him. Because of their influence, hiruzen inherited the will of fire which he then passed onto jiraiya and tsunade, thus making him influential.

Thats just what I think.

I picked Sakura for laughs and giggles. xd
No but in all seriousness Tobi has had the biggest influence in the Ninja World. He is the one who encouraged Yahiko to form the Akatsuki and gave Nagato the rinnegan and also declared the war.

It looks like most people are sticking to hashirama, hiruzen, tobi etc...

I just thought about Mei. Before she became mizukage, people with kekkei genkai were persecuted. She has 2 kekkei genkei. She must have had a huge influence on those of the hidden mist. And if this is true, then her influencing the people of the mist has had a huge (positive) impact towards ninja's with kekkei genkai and thus the ninja world :p

Just trying to think outside the box...

I went with Harashima, Madara, Danzo, The third hokage, and, finally, Orochimaru.

Harashima basically setup the village system and pieced together the bargaining chips that has made establishing peace possible. His belief in the children of the village is still taught as "The Will of Fire".

Madara is the other half of Harashima, and his rivalry with Harashima is at least a part of why the world is as it is, and is extremely important, even if we can't evaluate his actions after the battle of the end. He's involved with Tobi, but we don't know how, and the Moon's Eye plan is his plan, potentially.

Danzo's effects on the ninja world can be partially pieced together, and it's not good. We know he had a hand in Nagato's past and that he had dealings with Orochimaru, even after the attack on the Leaf that killed the Third. It's implied that he had something to do with the Uchiha massacre and he may have even had something to do with the actual attack on the leaf.

My next one is Orochimaru. Aside from the advanced jutsu he was developing, he had some pretty grand schemes in motion that, had they come to fruition, would have plunged the world into war and him into a position of power. If only he hadn't pursued revenge against the Third Hokage, he might have actually achieved his goals. Orochimaru also directly effects Jiraiya.

My last influential person is The Third Hokage. His pupils (Orochimaru and Jiraiya) are major players in the story, even now, despite both being dead (through their plans and beliefs.... naruto believes in Jiraiya's idea of peace, and orochimaru's still got secret plans coming into play). Hiruzen's pursuit of peace is mirrored in Danzo's disdain for it. We aren't shown all the problems that Hiruzen smoothed over and avoided, but, if he's the opposite of Danzo, there's probably some significant incidents we don't see. He set the pace for the first 100 or so chapters of the manga.

wft?! lol this list is all off IMO

No. It's the most original one. What else was i supposed to do? Repeat what the original poster said already "Orochimaru, Kabuto, Hashirama, Jiraiya, Tobi", like everyone else does in this thread? I added some originality, besides these 5, since they're the most obvious.

Fair enough. I disagree/agree on different points. +rep :)

Here's a respectable list. It may not float for everyone, but it won't sink entirely either. :)

-Hashirama, Madara, Tobi, Jiraiya, and Orochimaru

I had a tough time not putting Hiruzen in there, but I think the Sannin I listed (Jiraiya and Orochimaru) contributed enough on their own. As well, I forget who the OP is, but it turns out the 5 is a good limit. I'm sure that if I thought about for more than a few minutes I could come up with a bunch of lists and then weight them, write a program to give me the one with the best weights, but I really don't feel like it, so I'm going with this one and the criticism that follows. :)

Peace

Tobirama is a good one, he created the ANBU, the Police Force and the Academy which made the leaf the great power it once was

1. Hashirama - created Konoha, distributed tailed beasts, one of the strongest ever and his cells still make am impressive impact.

2. Tobi - made his impact perhaps ever since the Madara era and tricked everyone even to this day.

3. Hiruzen - trained the sannin!

4. Orochimaru - numerous researches that still are mentioned in the manga even now. Influenced Sasuke, Kabuto, Hiruzen, Jirayia, Tsunade, etc...

5. Nagato/Jirayia - Nagato was one of the top bosses o the world's most powerful organizations/ Jirayia trained the sons of prophecy which will eventually change the shinobi world
