so this episode is telling me they have gone from useless filler to flat out repeats of part1.

Yeah, it's pretty much just a repeat but with a new perspective. I'd say it's got more to do with Sasuke's point of view of everything that happened in the past. I think it's interesting, Sasuke actually never did anything for Team 7 from the start. He was always thinking about himself and achieving power but we didn't "really" know that until now. For example, in the survival training where Naruto was tied up and wasn't allowed to eat, Sasuke was calculating about his chances of passing the test without Naruto's help. At first we thought he gave him some of his food because he felt sorry for him but now we know he didn't. I just knew he couldn't get the bells without Naruto's help. The Sasuke that they knew never actually existed lol, it's kind of funny.
