My guess is that he practices the techniques first in the lower gates, and whichever one is stronger there he saves up for the 8th.

It's impossible to know although we may find out in the future but as I said earlier it's similar to Izanagi - how can you know how to do it / repeat it when it takes something from you? Izanagi blinds you and prevents you from ever using it again and the 8th gate kills you. It's hard to say for sure but there will most likely be some kind of god-like technique or speed involved with it.

Ever since the 8 gates were explained way back in the Chuunin exam, I've been expecting Guy to die from it. "Midnight Dragon" more appropriate than nighttime though, I've seen a lot of people with the same theory.

I don't know why people want to kill off Guy so much when there are people like Oonoki and Tsunade around.

There's always a chance that they could all die. Jiraiya is dead and Orochimaru is sealed away forever, so what's stopping the last Sannin from dying as well? The fact that Onoki never picked a successor almost immediately hints at his coming death. Guy and his "power of youth" persona and his opening of all but one inner gate basically hints that he'll eventually accept his age and likely use the final gate. Actually, when I think about it, there's a good chance that Tobi isn't gonna die in his current fight, cause I really can't see Sasuke fighting Naruto after he dies and the war ends. Bee might die, making Naruto the last jinchuuriki, and they'll probably meet up later to finish it. But who knows, y'know? Just a thought.

I wouldn't say it was unexpected. He WAS Hiruzen's son, y'know. And it's a form of "the father dies before the child is born" kind of thing, which isn't unseen.

I don't know about you but when they started fighting I thought Asuma would leave alive. Hidan surprised the hell out of me with his jutsu and indestructibility, probably the most surprising death in the anime for me.

it's nicely thought of, the midnight dragon technique of Guy in 8the gate mode.
it's actually plausible, there are some other hints that might fit in there.
Guy is in that battle with kakashi and naruto, right now naruto freed the tailed beasts from their bonds to the jinchuriki and their chakra has been stored in the Gedo Mazo statue. naruto seems to have worked up his time in the biju transformation mode also but he still has to defeat the Gedo Mazo statue to free the tailed beasts completely.

With the recent chapter itachi has been talking about recognizing what you can and what you can't do and relying on your friends to fill in for the things you can't do. that this makes you perfect, and he had a memory of naruto at that time.
so here is what I think will happen in light of this information combined with your proposed technique of the midnight dragon.

both naruto and kakashi will not be able to destroy the gedo mazo, but Guy has his 8th gate and that was said to be legendary, he even thought he could blast away 5 biju bombs with it. Even though naruto does not want his friends to sacrifice themselves for his sake but I think guy will be able to convice him this time. knowing that this will put a serious dent in tobi's batle power and free all the beasts. and if tsunade or sakura can get there in time they might be able to save his life.

Ever sines Tobi got the Rinnegan someone keeps bringing up this thread about the 8 gate and Gui's death. Get it through your head 8 gate is a failure against the powers in this battlefield, you are asking Gui to die for nothing, Naruto already saved Kakashi and Gui from using their powers against the tail beast bomb that they could not stop. The 8 gate is meant to be use to save someones life at the cost of your's in the situation Gui is in against that kind of power it is useless,it won't save nobody its a meaningless death for Gui.

Eighth gate? No doubt. The rinnegan aren't as all powerful as people make them seem, in all honesty unless you have huge amounts of chakra they're nothing incredible. The only reason Nagato and the Sage made them look godly is their already godly chakra reservers, since Tobi has low chakra apparently he's not using the path powers - he's only using the rinnegan for controlling his jink puppets atm. Regardless, if it's so powerful that it will cause you to just fall over dead it has to have some amazing abilities.
