Didn't the Sannin get their names during the 2nd war?
It's before part one. It is when Zabuza is a kid. I don't know when it starts and I don't know when it ends, especially in relation to the 9-tails attack and the 2nd and 3rd Ninja wars.

The only thing that messes with me about that whole thing is that they have similar abilities(Kakashi and Tobi). So far, isn't the only other person we know of with teleportation ability Shisui? One of his eyes was put into the crow and the other Danzo took, right? Who else has that same ability with their eyes?

yeah i think so because during the 3rd war minato was leading his own team and jiraiya didnt start training him until after he trained nagato. i think no one has talked about the 1st war

Madara made it clear that he knows who Tobi is, that pretty much killed the Obito theory right there...
It's very possible that he has Obito's eye, in fact it wouldn't be surprising at all. But him actually being Obito is nonsense at this point, there's too many things to contradict it.

i think he is not obito but it still is obito's sharingan just so they can come up with some crazy backstory as to how he got it and when we figure out how he got obito's sharingan we're all gonna be like dammit a whole chapter of flashback

Why Tobi is NOT Obito
This thread is mainly based on countering
Firstly; the name
Yes, we all agree that Tobi sounds like Obito and is practically the same. But we have seen how desperate Kishi is on names. Kurama, Son Goku, etc. It could've just rung a bell in his head, and maybe he took it from Obito on purpose, btw it is definitely NOT a link between Tobi and Obito.
Now we're through with that.
Secondly; the hair.
He posted this picture himself:
Now let's take a look. Saying Tobi's hair is like Obito's means Tobi is Obito? HELL NO! Look closely. In 1, his hair looked like Madara. In 2, we don't SEE his hair. In 3, his hair looks like Obito or Kagami's or even Danzo's. No big deal. I don't see any threads saying he's all 3 of them cos of his hair.
It's quite obvious.
Thirdly; the Mangekyou Sharingan.
Look, the warping thing? Seriously? Kamui and Tobi's jutsu looks quite different.
Here it looks like Deidara being liquified.
Here, Tobi is creating something more of a vacuum (or a black hole lol)
You can't take that as a reason why Tobi is Obito. It's like saying "Look! Itachi's Susano'o had a sword and Sasuke's had a bow!" It's more of a comparison like that.
Next, let's take a look at Tobi's two eyes. IF he had transplanted his other eye, won't the Mangekyou be different, even if he awakened it? My point exactly.

Crybaby ninja, only awakened the sharingan, now look at Itachi. Powerful shinobi in the ANBU, awakened the Mangekyou. BOTH BEFORE HE MURDERED HIS CLAN! See it now eh?
Also, Tobi couldn't have grown that tall, got such a deep voice AND he couldn't have gone from chuunin level to kage level that quickly. Naruto's clone is kage level, but he has Sage Mode AND he has the kyuubi in him. Obito doesn't.
