Nagato > Hashirama

Nagato has a counter for everything Hashirama can throw at him.

Hashirama is probably going to create a huge forest which shouldn't be too hard to wipe out with shinra tensei which took out konoho and the 3 massive frogs.

Using his summons and Asura path would cause a significant distraction since Asura path can be used at any range and does quite a bit of damage, whilst his summons are actually quite powerful especially the dog which multiplies.

Ninjutsu wouldn't have an effect on Nagato due to petra path which absorbs all ninjutsu(Harishirama's wood style), not just the chakra. Here he absorbs Jiriya's chakra on top of the chakra.

Hashirama wasn't know as a genjutsu user, his only feat is bringer of darkness iirc. The 3rd managed to navigate through it. Nagato has shown feats in sensory as well as his link with the rinnengan of other animals/paths so this shouldn't cause any major problems. Even then shouldn't rinnengan give him some resistance to visual genjutsu like the sharrigan does.

Finally tai jutsu. Nagato was capable of handling Bee and Naruto at the same time who have both been shown to show impressive feats. It would also be dangerous to get close due to human path which would lead to Hashirama getting dropped.

This is all without including gedo maze or chibaki tensei. My point is until we see a lot more of Hashirama he isn't as good as Kabuto makes him out to be, current Madara, Tobi, Kabuto(with edo's), Nagato and potential Bm Naruto can all take him.

The only thing the sages body has shown is an ass tonne of chakra which Nagato has, also kishi clearly favours eye techniques.

I'll list the Ninjas that can beat or have a chance to beat the Mighty Hashirama :

1. RikudouTobi. [Beats]
2. BM Naruto. [Beats]
3. Edo Madara. [Beats]

4. Prime Hiruzen. [Hype + 1000 genjutsus + Knowledge + RDS] [Has a High Chance or at least takes Hashi down with him]

5. Minato. [Speed + Seals + S/T + RDS] [Has a High Chance or at least takes Hashi down with him]

6. Tobirama Senju. [Edo Tensei + S/T + Knowledge ] [Has Much higher chance than aforementioned two hokages]

7. Nagato. [He's shown his weakness to genjutsus + doesn't have any escape jutsus + failed to tame Kurama which is something that others did, but has butt load of chakra and raw destructive power] [Could beat Hashirama but with extreme difficulty, prolly needs help from his paths and Gedo Mazo as well]

I think maybe when Edo Madara has sealed, Kishi will drop Flashback and we will see Battle - Madara vs Hashirama.

Hashirama is greater than Nagato:
1. Wood release can't be absorbed.
2. Hashirama has more power than that meets the eye: Considered strongest Shinobi ever by the Following:
a. Madara
b. Tobi
c. Kabuto
d. Tsunade
e. Sarotobi
f. Onoki and others..
3. Hashirama's wood release is unique. Only he(except copycats) was able to use this technique. The Scale Madara used was comparable with that of Hashirama for which to defend Naruto had to use all his Chakra + that of Kurama.
4. Hashirama dealt with Madara and Kyuubi at the same time. He knows almost all about EMS power and how to counter it. After seeing Rinnegan, he will definitely be conscious about it being Rinnegan and will be prepared for anything..
5. Nagato has never fought against Mukton user, every thing Hashirama does will be new to Nagato and His only option will be to use Sinra tensei, again and again.
6. Both their chakra level are high. Meaning that person who is careful and uses all power properly wins. Hashirama will have Advantage here.
7. His bringer of light, clones are still quite superb.

8. He is experienced enough to know that being near to Ninja's with eye power is dangerous. How could he have survived from Susanoo of Madara, The same way he will counter from being touched which might be the only way Nagato has of Defeating Hashirama..
