[Spoilers] Did Itachi use "Izanami" on Sasuke?

Hi there,

After reading the lastest chapter, we all know that Izanami is going to be a fairly OP jutsu.

What do we know already?
- Itachi wanted Sasuke to win in their epic 'clash'.
- We know that Izanagi casts a genjutsu on the user, and turns reality into illusions.

I think it's safe to assume that Izanami casts a genjutsu on the oppenent and turns illusions into reality.

In the last pannel of today's chapter, we can see Itachi activating the jutsu (crying 'Izanami'). But it's not like anything changed to Itachi: his eyes still look the same, so no-one can actually see him activating this jutsu if he doesn't cry it out loud.

So my theory is, that he could have potentially used this jutsu in his fight with Sasuke, in order to determine the outcome of the battle (turning illusions into reality). I'm not sure about it, but he could have done it: it was clear that Sasuke wasn't winning, until he used Kirin.

What do you think about this theory? Possible/not possible?

Maybe, maybe not... But Itachi knew that he was going to die anyway. If he used Izanami, he would have used it so that Sasuke would kill him.

Why not? He didn't need his eyes anymore, he wanted to die. And it was clear that Itachi had the upper hand in the fight. He wanted Sasuke to win, and maybe gave him a helping hand.

I don't think you get it. Besides not being required at the time plot wise, Izanami is a genjutsu, and it makes you lose your eyes:

Uchiha eyes have an eye power.....in exchange for losing their own sight.
If Itachi had used Izanami he would have lost an eye(or both, depending on whether its exactly like izanagi or no).

But Sasuke has both of Itachi's eyes, so i'm sorry but he could'nt have used it in his fight.

What was the need of using it?
Sasuke was already determined to kill him and he didn't even do that really. Itachi used Susanoo and the strain/sickness killed him, and in his last beath he gave Sasuke some power.
So no, I don't think was used dude.

Edit: Oh, also, ET bring the user back from the time of their death. Itachi would have an eye closed wouldn't he?

Maybe. But then I'm going deeper into this theory.

We know that Madara transplanted Izuna's eyes, in order to regain eternal light. But it was clear that Madara's eyes were sealed. So, if we are going into mathematics, it will be following formula:

Sealed MS + MS = EMS

So, if one of Itachi's eyes would be sealed in the process of using Izanami, then the questions is:

Is MS + Sealed MS = EMS?

That we don't know. But why would the second formulla be impossible if the first is possible?

I know this is far-fetched. But there are yet so many secrets in the Narutoverse. And as far as we know, Kishi never fails to surprise us with things we deem als impossible.

Exactly what he said, and plus you got it twisted anyway. IZANAGI is the technique that turns illusions into reality. You said it turns reality into illusions. No because Tobi used Izanagi against Konan, when she thought she killed him, he used it to make the illusion of him being alive a reality, and his death an illusion. Now we truly don't know what Izanami does yet, but you did have a good theory, but let's wait and see.

Sasuke pierces Danzo in the chest (reality).
Danzo turns this 'reality' into an illusion.

That's the power of Izanagi . But I see what you did there. It's just a matter of interpretation .
