it shouldnt work against tobi, he has more than enough chakra to break it over shikamaru, plus remember the rinnegan techs, he could almighty push it, or even preta path to absorb it, since its a ninjutsu that uses chakra. Another thing i always wondered about the preta path vs shadow mimic, since its a constant connection of shikamarus chakra controlling the opponent, couldnt in theory the preta path just absorb all his chakra til it killed shikamaru?

Shikamaru is the key of winning because his intelligence. His brain with Naruto's and other's powers might help them win. :)

You may want Shikamaru to face Tobi, but thats not how it's going to play out,Shikamaru will be like everybody else a audience looking at Naruto march to victory and like everybody else marveling at Naruto's growth and power.

Tobi can dodge physical attack, but he cant dodge shikamaru's shadow mimic jutsu, shikamaru ever use shadow mimic against tobi, tobi cant move and its forced tobi use gedemazo to attack shikamaru, i think naruto will defeat tobi assist by shikamaru team... shikamaru will force tobi use izanagi one more time...

I think Shikamaru's shadow bind is only an issue for Tobi when he's tangible like so many other jutsu in the Narutoverse. In the example you gave, I believe he was becoming tangible in order to teleport the Amber Pot with the KinGin brothers' Kyuubi chakra sealed inside, so he likely could've just phased out (i.e. intangible, thus what does the shadow bind?), killed Shikamaru, rematerialized, and then teleported away with the Amber Pot. However, he already had Gedo Mazo there, so he used Gedo Mazo, which when attacking Shikamaru, broke Shikamaru's hand seal and the corresponding shadow bind, thus freeing Tobi. As well, due to his incredible intelligence Tobi was hoping to kill him with Gedo Mazo, as he felt he was too smart to allow to live given he was for the alliance.

Notice the panel in the middle left that highlights Tobi hand grabbing the Amber pot, indicating that he's taking hold of it for teleportation and thus tangible before Shikamaru's shadow bind connects.

Next page has a nice aerial view.

I don't think Shikamaru is necessarily the key to Tobi's demise because that screws with the whole destined child plot for Naruto if you think about it in a way unless Kishi writes it such that all of Naruto's friends play key roles along with Naruto, which would be kind of cool. Thus, I think it would be an all or none thing (i.e. all his friends or none of his friends, which harkens back to Itachi's comments about those who become Hokage), not just one or two friends like Shikamaru unless the contributions are minor. Further, we were recently shown all of Naruto's friends being sent to reinforce him by Shukaku via Inoichi (who had a freakin' cocaine nose bleed from the transmission, lol :D).

Thus, you may very well be on to Shikamaru's role, but it's not a terribly surprising one, given it's what he's done all series long in groups or solo (Hidan), genius with the shadow bind Nara clan techniques. Further, Tobi likely has an easy counter to this (phasing) since he only has to be tangible to attack and teleport, so it's really about Shikamaru's genius (i.e. learning the 5 minute limit) more than anything that makes him important. Tobi wasn't disappointed to have to kill him because of Shikamaru's jutsu but because of his brains. :)

Peace

Shika can prevent tobi from using teleportation coz shadow mimic make tobi's shadow bond, its make him cant move or teleport to anywhere, but shadow mimic cant prevent him to being unmaterialized, we can see gedemazo striking area included toby body, its mean tobi can unmaterialized when he under shika's jutsu.

Tobi will simply slip through the technique just as he did when Shino attacked him with his bugs.

HOWEVER, if Konan is still alive, Shikamaru may play a role in Tobi's defeat. She knows he can only stay intangible for 5 minutes at a time and Shikamaru's technique may be effective after this timelimit.

Team Asuma could probably defeat him, Ino can use the mind transfer jutsu to control him! But for the story to be good she can never defeat him lol

Yes, I said Shikamaru's shadow bind wouldn't stop Tobi from dematerializing/becoming intangible. Further, I said it would only work when he is tangible, which is required to teleport, so what are you adding? I'm confused... :)

Manga Name is Naruto, the prophecy is about Naruto, the teams and team work are being saved by Naruto. One man can make a difference, one man can change the future and that one man is Naruto, not Shikamaru.

Calling Shikamaru 'key' is a bit of an oversimplification.
However!! We all know that Konoha 11, etc r on the way to assist Naruto and company against Tobi. One point in the war, Shikamaru caught Tobi with his shadow and Tobi called him a regrettable opponent. It could be a foreshadow here since we all know Kishimoto is into Shikamaru..

This is what I think, Shikamaru cannot embarass his Dad who is the leader of allied shinobi force with the kages gone. Of course, with Naruto as the title character, it will be Naruto who defeats Tobi but after Shikamaru arrives to help Naruto with some flawless plan. I think Shikamaru would be an important factor for Naruto to defeat Tobi is all. Not a Key character.

Naruto will not save the world alone. Kishi already foreshadowed this with Naruto's little talk with Itachi. Naruto will outshine everyone but he's going to get help like it or not.

Itachi dose not know what Naruto is becoming and what He is destine to be, Itachi has never contemplated that Naruto is the SO6P.
