There may be some logic in the genjutsu. It could go off future events or something like that and Sasuke isn't really a threat to the Leaf village. And when I think about his promise to him, I start thinking that he was likely lying to him. If Kabuto undoes the jutsu, how's he gonna talk to Sasuke? Just something to think about

Technically sasuke is a big threat to the leaf. He had just killed Danzo and was confronted by naruto and he said it himself that he is coming for the leaf and narutos gonna have to stop him, he got his new eyes and has been out of commission since. Regardless, the nations are joined right now, and sasuke sure ain't on the good side fighting w/ the leaf. But yeah I can see how itachi would be lying but that was kinda the point of the promise this time, itachi is probably the last person who can influence light in sasuke, I'm sure w/e questions sasuke has will be answered or discussed and not left for us to wonder, itachi plans on undoing the jutsu in kabutos mind but he could also just undo Marada and continue helping the leaf or let sasuke seal him after they talk. Then again we probably just interpret things differently, so I mean no offense! 2 more days to find out!

I see a lot of post stating that shikkotsurin might be land of the slugs but when I checked the meaning it stated crow Forrest so I would say lets hold on till kishi gives us his meaning. Itachi has Crows and sasuke has hawk so maybe its mystical island of birds.

A. The traits of crows / ravens
1. Crows have a personality.
They are generally very peaceful birds and very intelligent. However, they also tend to be aggressive, playful and mocking. A crow is rarely forgotten once it sounds because of its harsh, powerful yet sweet tone.
2. Their Habitat.
Crows have originated in the tropical areas of the Old World, particularly Rainforests which have high humidity. Even today they still live primarily in forests where they eat basically anything.
3. Humidity and food.
Crows are scavengers and thus will eat anything. They are known for eating roadkill, rotten corpses, rotten food and they clean their food in water and humidity. They only eat flesh and leave the bones intact.

B. The Myth of Yatagarasu
1. Explanation of the term 'Yatagarasu'
Yatagarasu (kanji: 八咫烏) literally means "eight-span crow" or "eight-headed" crow. He is the guardian god of the sun and is generally depicted with three legs. Yatagarasu has various other appearances in other Asian countries, primarily in the "big three": China, Japan and Korea.
2. Japan.
Yatagarasu's role was small in the beginning, even though he was a deity. There are basically two steps of his legend:
- One is being a messenger / spy for the other Kami; Yatagarasu's appearance was regarded as an omen for either something really good or bad.

The second one involves a war again. Kamo Taketsunimi no Mikoto, the founder of the Kamo-Agatanushi clan, saved the people by turning into a great crow and thus ending the war. The Kamo Ataganushi, which still exist today in Japan, were called the descendants of that kami.
Yatagarasu is still worshipped today in many Japanese shrines.
3. Korea
In Korea, that crow is called Samjoko and is Korea's symbol of tremendous power, superior to both the dragon and the phoenix. In the Goguryeo period, the Korean kings used that crow as a symbol of power.
4. China.
The crow has three names in China: Sanzuwu (three-legged bird), Yangwu/Jinwu (golden crow). It's the guardian of the sun and symbolizes light.

C. The relevance of the Tripedal Crow in Asia
1. Japan
As a Kami, Yatagarasu holds a tremendous importance in the Japanese Shinto culture.
- Yatagarasu is the Emblem of both the Japanese Emperor and the National Football Team. Winners of the Emperor's Cup wear the Yatagarasu emblem.
- In Japan, Yatagarasu is considered a creed of courage and benevolence, seeing as Yatagarasu saved the Japanese people numerous times.
2. Korea
In Korea, the Samjoko is still considered a national emblem due to it's prestigeous power status. It symbolizes superiority, intelligence and millitary might.
3. China
The Sanzuwu was THE Emblem of the Chinese empire. It was everywhere: In the palace, on imperial garnments and there were even Twelve Medallions in the Imperial Palace; Sanzuwu is one of them.
When the Chinese empire met with the Japanese, Chinese ambassadors brought the Japanese a dead crow with three legs. It's also held that the Chinese used the Sanzuwu as a totem, similar to the Romans' SPQR.

So all in all, the Tripedal Crow is a symbol of power.

D. How all this links to Shikkotsurin = Crow's land
Shikkotsurin literally means 'Humid Bone Forest'. Let's break that term apart and apply what we have learned about crows so far:
Humid
The origin of crows is the Rainforest with high humidity. Crows wash their prey in water before eating it.
Bone
Crows are scavengers, eating corpses and decay. Of all flesh they eat, they leave bones behind.
Forest
The origin of crows is the forest. Even today, most crows and corvids live in forests and prey on insects and flesh.

E. Telltale clues in the Manga
Itachi.
- Itachi heavily links with crows, death and decay. Wherever he goes, death follows.
- He was a messenger/spy for Konoha; his primary reason for joining Akatsuki.
- In the databook, Itachi is regarded as a true hero for his sacrifice.
- Itachi was - and still is - an emblem of power and intelligence, similar to all the crows in the myth.
- He was guiding Naruto and now is guiding Sasuke in a way.
- Itachi was freed through a Jutsu called Koto Amatsukami. The same Koto Amatsukami in the myth that marked Yatagarasu's hero stage, ending many wars.
Sasuke
- Sasuke is not depicted as a hawk at all. Kishimoto depicts him as a Karasu Tengu, a crow demon.
- He used the vision of Karasu Bunshin in the Danzo fight.
- It is said that Sasuke will adapt Itachi's things once he is saved, inculding all his crow traits.
- The hawk seems to hold no general importance anymore, but the crow always had massive importance through Sasuke as well.
Susanoo
- Susanoo's current theme seems to be bones only, no flesh at all. In fact, it is Susanoo's true form before mastering the next stages.

F. Discussing the possibility of a Crow Mode
- The crow has massive mythological importance; it's perhaps the most important Kami after Tsukuyomi, Amaterasu and Susanoo.
- Three mythological places are said to exist in the Kojiki. In the Naruto manga they are the following:
-> Myobokuzan, the Toad Mountain - Naruto's SM
-> Ryuchido, the Dragon's Nest - Kabuto's SM
-> Shikkokutsurin, the forest that is (possibly) the den of the crows - Possible Tengu/Crow mode
- The Crow mode / Tengu mode might be the counterpart to the Sage Mode which is equally powerful. It is theorised that SM belongs to the Younger Son of Rikudou; Likewise, Crow mode belongs to the Elder Son.
- Tengu, particularly Karasu Tengu, in Japanese mythology are teachers of Ninjutsu, the human arts. Rikudou Sennin is regarded as the founder of Ninjutsu, marking the advent of Shinobi.
Since RS had two sons with two different natures, the means of gaining SM and the crow mode could be different:
-> SM relies on natural energy and a calm balance. You must have a suitable body.
-> Crow mode could rely on the purity of extreme emotions, mainly rage, righteousness and the desire to protect. the Elder Son inherited the eyes, so the key of gaining Crow mode could be through the eyes.
The Will of Koto Amatsukami made Kamo Taketsunimi no Mikoto a savior through turning to Yatagarasu. He was regarded a savior to this very day.
Itachi wanted Sasuke to be a savior and a hero known to all.
- Both Itachi and Sasuke are depicted as crows; the former more than the latter. Sasuke is the image of Karasu Tengu while Itachi is the image of Yatagarasu.

Hanzo pulls out his sickle.

Madara: By testing if they're real!
Tsunade: Hmm. Tsunade activates a jutsu.

Mei: Tsunade-sama....why?
Tsunade: This is the final stand. Bring out your best guns because were ending this.
Tsunade's body becomesfull of marking similar to kuchiyose.
Madara: !
Onoki: In that case..
Onoki stands beside Tsunade.
Gaara: I can only do this if I let my old self take over...I guess...this is a one time case.
Gaara walks beside her with his devilish murderous face.
Mei: I never wanted to use this eye...
Mei walks beside and removes her hair band, moving the hair away from her eye. The eye is stiched.
Onoki: What about you big guy.

*As the battle starts between Kabuto and the Brothers, Itachi jumps foreward and blasts a Katon towards Kabuto. However, to everyones surprise, Itachi turns around and places his brother Sasuke in a Genjutsu suddenly*

Itachi: Sasuke, listen, I've placed you in a genjutsu, this is done so that we may communicate and come up with a strategy. As you know, I am capable of controlling space and time within this domain. We can take as long as we like, in the outside world it will only be a second.

Sasuke: ...

Itachi: I have a plan. A Shinobi must be quick to respond to new information. Thanks to you, Dr Snakes, I have learnt about how snakes are sensitive to temperature. It was for this reason I fired a Katon. As soon as this genjutsu ends, use your EMS to see how Kabuto and his snakes react to the Katon and how their chakra disperses. From their reaction, we may discover some sort of weakness or understand where the source of their power comes from.

Sasuke: Why is that necessary?

Itachi: You may be Dr Snakes, but I have done my fair bit of research on Sennin Modo. I too once had the ambition of achieving this power, and with the power of the Sharingan combined, I would have gained extreme strength, however that was not possible.

Sasuke: Why?

Itachi: Our bodies will not be able to handle sennin modo.

Sasuke: ...

Itachi: It was the same for Orochimaru. His body wasn't powerful enough to handle it. That is why he was an imperfect sage. To become a sage, you have to be able to absorb natural energy and to do that, you have to be very still, almost dead. However, there is an alternative route.

Itachi: Have some third entity collect natural energy for you which then transfers it to you.

Sasuke: ...

Itachi: This is where the curse seal came in. Orochimaru didn't want to rely on a third entity. He wanted a body which could readily absorb natural energy. The cursed seal acted as a catalyst for all of this.

Itachi: However, Kabuto is different. He is using his snakes to collect that natural energy on his behalf.

Itachi: The third entity needs to be connected to you, a sort of fusion. The snake you saw stuck on kabuto's back was the thing collecting the energy for him which allows him to enter sage mode.

Itachi: This was the exact same way Jiriya sama performed his Sennin Modo. He used the elder toads to collect natural energy on his behalf.

Itachi: However, there have only been 3 people who have been able to enter sennin modo without the need of a third entity.

Itachi: Heh ... you've caught on Sasuke. Anyway, as I have said, see how the snakes react to the Katon. Your occular powers will be able to see this in far more detail than I will be able to. After that, we shall meet here again to discuss the nature of Kabuto's powers.

my brain almost exploded.......
I hope you are correct because as for the story to progress it would be imperative for sasuke to get an upgrade, even though EMS already is. But, i believe even though you bring a great point about the mythological powers in Asian culture we still arrive at the question of the name. The habitat part seems a bit like a stretch, because crows dont only live in Humid places. And another point to make is that sasuke is now the Hawk, after his fight with Danzo..Atleast that is what the mange tried to suggest with the snake to hawk, but maybe now dragon to Golden Crow who knows...Never the less i think you fairly speculate towards your point. Now One question is raised from this, What is in the scroll seigetsu found? Because if Sasuke does become a Crow Sage what possible outcome could come out of having the croll.? Would that empower him?

None taken I'm just saying that that's a possible reason as to why Itachi isn't attacking Sasuke, cause if he's still bent on destroying the Leaf, then it'd be a complete 180 of what Shisui's eye forced him to do. And don't forget that Danzo was an a**hole, so I doubt anyone really cared about his death. This is too good of a manga for Kishi to leave us hanging for a whole week at a time. And he could at least leave us with more than one chapter before he takes the whole month of April off.

i mean lets not get carried away with the crows first tho, kishi could easily throw it back to madara nd the kages and then tsunade may explain the secret behind her miotic regeneraition and release another version/ or power.

if it is crows then its slightly ridiculous because there have been many uchihas, how come none have displayed this sage mode or even mentioned it.

No i dont like this idea at all it seems like its reachin and another excuse to further empower the uchiha.

The senju clan were supposed to be on par with the Uchiha all we know about them is the 1st hokages wood and 2nds invention of the edo tensei.

i believe nxt chapter may be tsunade explainin tht sage mode might be a technique handed down thru the senju and she may heal without formin seals nd stuff like tht and defeat her "clone" madara.

i can see kabuto coming away from this with a new power thru experimentin on sasuke (possibly due to his affinity with the curse seal) and maybe even sasuke and naruto teaming up to fight kabuto after kabuto acquires more power.

i also see kabuto undoing the edo tensei technique on itachi and him jus dying ppl forget kabuto can undo the technique and itachi would be useless

its also possible tht sasuke can learn this sage mode due to his heavy in take of juugo's chakra at the 8 tails fight activating the rinnegan. He could get this new power and fight naruto once naruto has all the tailed beasts chakra. In this version tho i see sasuke killin kabuto after kabuto undoes itachis edo tensei.

Scene switch to Kages
The 5 kages are back to back facing a crows of Madara's
Madara: So you can't even take one 5 clones of me separately. Really disappointing.

Chapter 580: Strategy

*As the battle starts between Kabuto and the Brothers, Itachi jumps foreward and blasts a Katon towards Kabuto. However, to everyones surprise, Itachi turns around and places his brother Sasuke in a Genjutsu suddenly*

Itachi: Sasuke, listen, I've placed you in a genjutsu, this is done so that we may communicate and come up with a strategy. As you know, I am capable of controlling space and time within this domain. We can take as long as we like, in the outside world it will only be a second.

Sasuke: ...

Itachi: I have a plan. A Shinobi must be quick to respond to new information. Thanks to you, Dr Snakes, I have learnt about how snakes are sensitive to temperature. It was for this reason I fired a Katon. As soon as this genjutsu ends, use your EMS to see how Kabuto and his snakes react to the Katon and how their chakra disperses. From their reaction, we may discover some sort of weakness or understand where the source of their power comes from.

Sasuke: Why is that necessary?

Itachi: You may be Dr Snakes, but I have done my fair bit of research on Sennin Modo. I too once had the ambition of achieving this power, and with the power of the Sharingan combined, I would have gained extreme strength, however that was not possible.

Itachi: Our bodies will not be able to handle sennin modo.

Itachi: However, Kabuto is different. He is using his snakes to collect that natural energy on his behalf.

Itachi: The third entity needs to be connected to you, a sort of fusion. The snake you saw stuck on kabuto's back was the thing collecting the energy for him which allows him to enter sage mode.

Itachi: This was the exact same way Jiriya sama performed his Sennin Modo. He used the elder toads to collect natural energy on his behalf.

Sasuke: ...

Itachi: However, there have only been 3 people who have been able to enter sennin modo without the need of a third entity.

Itachi: The Rikudo Sennin, Uzumaki Naruto and ...

It's time Tobi gets some offensive powers for himself, all he had was invulnerable and teleportation and Izanagi but only used it once, he never really had offensive powers, so hopefully he will get powers.

Kakashi, "I think it would be safe to assume you would win Naruto, your a Special Jonin now."

Naruto, "well its about time! Multi shadow clone jutsu, original technique eternal barrage!"

There are at least one thousand. Clones, all swarming Tobi and the statue.

Tobdara, "you think clones can stop me?!"

They start to attack, there are radrmgans being used thought the swarm of Naruto. There is nowhere for Tobdara to go.
With bee in 8tail mode pushing, they topple the statue. Many of them ounce on it with rasengans.

Kakashi, "let's go Gai, Naruto doesn't need is here. After all he is a Jonin now and our future."

They both leave but the clone of Kakashi stays behind.

Scene switch to Kabuto.

Suddenly a huge snake wraps around Itachi.

Sasuke, "I don't need anyone's help!"*

Slams both his hands down on the ground.

"Chidori current and lightning hawk !"

A huge wave of Chidori trails the ground from him to Kabuto then *behind him.*

Kabuto, " that stung just a little bit"

A huge Summoning size Hawk rises like a Phoenix and envelops Kabuto. He is shocked and burnt but still maintains his attack on Sasuke.

Kabuto, "no you don't. You will not defeat me, i will have my reward!"

Itachi is behind Kabuto, " prize? Did Madara bargain your allegiance with my brothers life?"

Spikes extend from Kabutos back, " don't know how you got Away from Manda but you can't stop me."

Kabuto, " you know what? I think I will end Edo Tensei. This War doesn't concern me."

Itachi and Sasuke inside his partially melting Susan'oo, just look at him.

Sasuke, "what's the catch?"

Kabuto, "you give urself up to me Sasuke and I will end this jutsu except for Itachi. If not i will end them all. What will it be?"

Sasuke smiles, " you are so pathetic. You really have faith in thinking you are the only one that was taught about this jutsu?"

Itachi manages to get over to Sasuke , Kabuto has stopped the flames and we see that re Susan'oo was almost gone."

He glances at Itachi then Itachi smiles.

Kabuto you, you know the weakness? No one knows it, he wouldn't even tell me, said it was better it wasn't known!"

"I can't stop you without killing you that is true, but he doesn't need to worry about that!"

Itachi cuts burns him with Amaterasu.

Kabuto screams in agony until he his gone. Then suddenly swirls of dirt and earth form Kabuto a new body. It it is his natural one.*

Kabuto, " what just happened?!"

Itachi, " it seems when u use this jutsu *the edo can kill the *caster then by doing so the caster is the edo and vice versa."

Sasuke, " meaning You are dead Kabuto, no longer in control I the ones you raised. Itachi is *it he is also..."

Itachi, looking at his hands, " alive."

Kabuto , " what?!"

All the snakes he summoned disappear.

Manda wraps around Itachi" goodbye little strange eyes."

Itachi, " I summoned Manda a long time ago when I was young by accident. He was injured from a battle, I got him back to health and never once used my Sharinghan on him. He respects me as I do him."

Manda leaves.*

Itachi, " now to undo the Jutsu, I have his knowledge as caster."

Sasuke grabs his hands with a partial Susan'oo, " no keep your promise, we will have or talk. "

Itachi," you are right let's make this short as possible...."

We see the five Kages being surrounded and pummeled by edo Madara clones.
