the uchihas are behind the 4th ninja war - extermination of the clan; right or wrong?

i still am very confused as to why the uchihas were slaughtered at the command of the elders and danzo. was it just because they were planning an uprising against the senju? this wont still be valid because the senju can easily defeat them if that time came. now look what this clan has done - 4th ninja war.

This here. And I don't think it was exactly against the Senju, I believe it was because they were planning on attacking the Leaf itself. Remember that at that time a Senju was not Hokage. Instead of going to war, where other villages like the Cloud could invade them, they decided to ask a fellow Uchiha to attack the village, since they would never expect an Uchiha to attack them.

this is what i am actually looking at.
i am suspecting there is a deeper reason why the uchiha was annihilated - not just a plain and simple civil war.
this is a whole clan for GSake- non-shinobi women, children and oldees. how can they even participate in an actual fight?
if anyone has a deeper idea on why the slaughter, kindly let me know. or if it really is a plain and simple "civil war", then here comes the 4th ninja war by the uchiihas - an act of revenge i forsee.
