1: This is not about Religion.
2: This is about how much control parents should legally have over their Kids.
3: Try n Keep it clean.

I was watching something and began thinking. Basically, when parents have feelings/beliefs/moralities etc that affect their children, when should an external source get involved?

There have been instances where young children are denied the care required because parents feel that they have another option which they feel is more suitable and they wish their child to follow. As a minor most children have no say or idea as to what to think and sometimes go along with what their parents say.

So basically, what do you think should be done,if a parents beliefs/thoughts may harm the child and professionals advise another course of action?

Should we intervene? Should we leave the parents to decide? Should we get involved for the sake of the child regardless of parents?

1: How much control should we give parents?
2: Should it always be the parents with the final say?
3: What is it like where you live?
4: What are your personal feelings?

1: 99% control but if the parent begins to put the child in danger, then an external source should get involved.
2: No. Most of the time yes but not if the childs health is at risk.
3: Not sure,only lived here 6 months.
4: I can't stand it when I see a child/person who is being put in a critical position simply because the parents belief in particular things. In my case,It's mostly because of Homeopathic practitioners who feed people BS about Sugar Pills when the child needs real medical care.

2. Nope.
3. I don't know. I lived elsewhere.
4. What's the point of this thread? Seriously, why even make it? It's just going to be people giving their opinions and nothing will result from it other than you'll hear other people's opinions. It won't change anything, it won't make the world a better place, so why even discuss it. <- Those are my feelings. o.o

You should always obey your parents. Obviously if it puts you at risk then no but other than that, you should listen to your parents. The end.

Chatterbox, means you can talk about whatever you want. I was just curious. Who gives a **** about my reasons?

The point of this thread is to acertain people views. That's all. That's the only point of all of NB,trading opinions.

It's not about obeying parents silly.

Example: A young child is very ill and needs urgent medical attention in order to save the child/baby.
The parents believe that all they need to use is Homeopathic remedies(which btw are made of sugars) and have been advised by Homeopathic practitioners to follow their advice and ignore medical experts.

The result would be a dead baby. Should parents be able to make that sort of call or should an external entity be keeping a watchful eye to ensure the safety of infants and people who can't take care of themselves.

The parents wouldn't do that. If they did that'd be stupid; why make a thread about this when the obvious answer is the parents are wrong and other things should be done?

That, in my opinion, is rather pointless... Yes, I know it's Chatterbox. I've said my piece really, so I'll leave you to your thread o_O

Because I want to get peoples opinions. What's so strange about that?

BTW,Parents do this sort of thing all the time and I've dealt with it.

I even had a woman come to me, she had ovarian cancer and had been mind f****d into thinking Homeopathy would work. Her parents told her to take them, her Homeopath told her and her friends told her. By the time she spoke to me she was in the final stages of cancer and was untreatable.

People try to make decisions for others based solely on what they think is right and not based on what is best for the individual. I thought this was a worthy topic.

If you don't find it interesting, leave it alone.
