Why isn't Hidan in the war?

Kabuto took all that time to get the DNA for the edo Tensei. If he got Kakuzu's DNA then he must have been near Hidan's body at some point so why did he skip him? He could have retrieved Hidan's head and attached it back to his body. I'm sure Hidan was one of the more valuable members.

Hidan is buried underground and i dont think kabuto will go through that trouble to get him

Because since he is still alive Kabuto cant turn him into a summon-able pawn to use to his whims.

Well he can't control him, that seems an obvious answer. Hidan is alive and so can't be summoned via IWR.

Also to be honest Hidan kind of sucks. Shikamaru took him out after meeting him once and setting up a few paper bombs. Imagine actual ninjas (Shikamaru is smart but he is by far the physically weakest of the Konoha 11) fighting. Hidan would get his head cut off, or arms cut off, and without Kakuzu there to reattach them Hidan would be useless again.

He cannot be summoned; he is not dead. And I dont know if Kabuto has the know-how to figure out Hidan's exact location in a family-guarded part of a forest far below the surface of the earth.

He's irrevelant. What made Hidan dangerous was his ability to attack however he wants without worrying about fatal damage. Since every Edo can do that, he's no longer "special".

He would have been so much more useful though if Kabuto had killed him and then used him as an edo

Because Kishi trolls out all characters we like, but especially in that arc by eliminating Hidan and Kakuzu in the same arc they first appeared in, while both didn't even get a backstory.

Cause he is alive but his body is in pieces. Even if kabuto attached hidans part, I dont think he'll be of any use. Cause he want to do things on his own and bring disavantage to their team as well
