Actually Hashirama was his brother, not his master, and now you're starting to overrate him. Hashirama is great but he's not the best Water user, Kishimoto has already clearly stated that Tobirama was the best Water Release user ever in the series of Naruto, Hashirama's Water Release does not compare to Tobirama's Water Release Affinity.

No, manga states that tailed beast are weak against Wood. Anyways you underestimate the 9 tails cause he wouldnt be taken down that easily and while Hashi is struggling with the 9 tails to seal him Madara is also attacking.
