So Russia passed a bill the other day to limit and forbit homosexual beheviour. It seems that the idea of letting people live a free & equal existance is too much for some places to handle.

Anyway, here's the link. Try and show support if you can.

Edit: I have added a pole which is indirectly related to the topic. It asks if you feel you can live and let live. Can you disagree with someone and simply allow them to continue with their view?

I've been under the impression that many countries forbid homosexual acts/behaviors...

True but this was something I've been keeping an eye on. Russia has had some political issues lately but I can't believe they would be this backwards.
Certain states in the US and some other countries do this sort of thing I know but it certainly doesn't make it right.

Thousands of people have left Russia in revolt, which to me says the country isn't listening to it's people.

In truth, I've felt a country does not have to be concerned with "human rights." The U.S. Constitution practically mandates it, but I suppose I would have to look at the Russian Constitution.

I think that in a modern society we should learn to accept other peoples choices within reason. I'm not saying allow everything or allow unacceptible behaviour but people should be allowed to live as they feel fit.

Banning homosexual behaviour, talking, writing, books and everything else is censorship of the highest calibre.
I'm certainly not saying anyone should put up with this sort of thing in public, but simple and reasonable actions should be allowed.

This is extreme and I think it's too much but only in the same way I wouldn't expect a nude or half nude woman to be able to walk through the streets rubbing her stuff all over the place.
It's about being decent.

Very true, but I've just wondered why other countries should get involved in such matters... it's a domestic issue that has little impact on the rest of the world's society. Don't get me wrong, I think every country should have some levels of freedom and human rights, but if that guarantee is not in a country's constitution or founding document, what makes the rest of the world think it has the right to intervene?

Very valid point.

I guess it's up to the individual to know what they want from life and decide where we choose to live based on this.
Additionally though,If a country really cared for it's people,it would want them to have the best quality of life and act based on this.

I know that people can be born gay and if they're born into a country which prohibits such acts or lifestyles, they may feel pressured into leaving. And by leaving,I don't just mean by plane or boat.

I think it's about our world becoming more united and tolerant. We're growing as a species and we show a lot of promise. But certain things, this included, remind me that we are still light years away from being perfect.

Seems like a good idea to me. Well, I personally don't have much more to say on this, so I guess other people will need to weigh in with their opinions. Good luck, and hopefully people stay on topic and act respectful as this may become a bit "touchy."

I don't know about Russia nor it's whole political thing, but I've come to understand that most countries aren't all too happy about it. That's their business I suppose, but for what it's worth, I think the whole world should just let this go. It's an unnecessary quarrel in my opinion, for everyone.

But I'm not the law or anything. Just a teen who thinks this issue with the world isn't worth fighting against. Just a waste of time. Just let people love each other, no matter what sexual orientation. No harm, no faul, you know?

IT is wrong yes, but it really isn't anyone but the Russians business. Other countries, mainly the US, need to stop getting involved in domestic issues in foreign countries. While I think gays should have equal rights, I'm not one to be able to push my ideas onto the leaders of Russia. Dozens of countries have anti-gay laws, Russia is just the newest. So if you're gay, don't move to Russia, or if you're a gay Russian, move away from Russia, or don't get caught being gay. If you're not Russian, its not your business.

Good on you Russia.

I seriously don't understand why you guys discuss things like this.
You can't do anything about it, so why waste time?

To Hyp: First of all, I feel like a noob for not quoting you xd

I see why they debate it. It's something about life. On NB, everything is discussed, so I don't see why it should be excluded.

However, I think I know what you mean. There's been thousands of these threads recently. Don't know why. It's annoying, I agree.

D: dude that's so mean... Gays are people too
Gays are human, they shouldn't feel excluded at all just because of their sexual orientation.
And this is Russia, they're more tougher in the East so the Gays in Russia can handle it.

I understand this Global Sexual Orientation Equality awareness, but all you can do is discuss something that can only satisfy morale and nothing more.
People from Norway can't stop Homosexual hate in Kenya by the internet, so I suggest if you want to do something don't waste time on an anime site discussing it go to Russia and tell them its wrong.
If people accept others on the basis of Humanity alone, there's no need for people to cry for equality.

I mean go ahead, discuss it and all but it won't do anything.

I agree and I'd like to stay away from Russia. They frighten me.

I mean discussing is all you can do, but doesn't mean it should be stopped. Like many topics on here, talking doesn't change anything, but that's what a forum is about. Atleast a portion of it anyways.

If it passes, DO NOT visit...I would hate to see someone of the LGBT getting punish unfairly b/c of bigots that cant understand.

We can do something if we speak out for them. Homosexuality isn't a new thing, it's been around for ages..people just turn a blind eye. I do believe is pointless to discuss but it's always nice to see a person's point of view..also you can always vote to outlaw that stupid law.
