Hi guys!

I've recieved a couple of PM's asking me about various instances in the manga where the translations seemed to be a little sketchy.

I've decided to gather them all up in a single topic and suggest you ask your questions here. I think it would be a more suitable way to deal with the problem.
I doubt I can keep the list in a chronological order, but I'll try my best.

Anyways, off we go. These are the ones that I can think of at the moment.
I'll edit this when more come to my mind.

Rumour : Arashi Uzumaki is written on the Toad's Summoning Scroll.
You must be registered for see images

Nope.
There's no such thing.

Uzumaki, actually can be written in Kanji too.
Hiragana - うずまき
Katakana - ウズマキ
Kanji - 渦巻き or 渦巻
The kanji form normally consists of two kanjis and one hiragana character. But the hiragana (き) at the end is commonly not used in actual writing.

Arashi means storm and is written like this:
Hiragana - あらし
Katakana - アラシ
Kanji - 嵐

The name on the scroll obviously doesn't fit the regular Hiragana writing of Uzumaki. Same goes for it's Katakana version too. The character number fits the Kanji, but it has nothing else in common. In fact, it seems as if it's gibberish. If you ask me, that was done on purpose by Kishi.

We didn't know Minato's name back then and speculations were running wild. We didn't know that Naruto inherited his surname from his mother, so everyone who supported the theory that Naruto was Yondaime's son, expected Yondaime to have Uzumaki as a surname.
One dunderhead posted that image on a forum and made up the name Arashi and all hell broke loose, due to a majority of people not being able to read Japanese.

Here, we see the same scroll in a later chapter where the kanji is a lot more readable.

The fourth name, the one next to Jiraiya is 米十烝, and the fifth is 龍焦. The writing in the margin can't be read, but it probably says something about a contract.

Depending on how you combine the kanji, you can get a variant of names for the one next to Jiraiya.

can be read as kome, yone, bei or mai.
can be read as to, tou or juu.
can be read as jou or susumu.

So, if you read it as; 米十 烝 you get Maito Susumu or Beijuu Susumu. But if you seperate the first character and combine the latter two, as 米 十烝, you get Kome Tojou or Yone Tojou.

As for the one next to it;
can be read as ryuu or tatsu.
is read as shou.

So 龍焦 can be read as Ryuushou.

The names don't seem to hold any significance.

Rumour : Naruto Akippuuden will be the name of the series after Shippuuden.
There is no such thing as Akippuden.
It's just a fan started rumour like Uzumaki Arashi being written on the toad scroll.

Shippuuden has a meaning, it's written as 疾風伝 and means Hurricane/Gale Chronicles.

疾風 -> Can be read as hayate and shippuu and means gale, storm, hurricane.
伝 -> Is read as den and means legend, tale, chronicle etc.

Akippu has no meaning.
There's no such thing in Japanese as akippu.

Translation error in chapter 575 regarding Kabuto's monologue.
You must be registered for see images

Kabuto's quote about Danzo's prototype and Orochimaru's relation is mistranslated.
It should have been like this.

Kabuto - ( クク… 大蛇丸様が作った ダ ン ゾ ウ の 試 作 と はわけが違うよ マダラよ り 強 かった初代火影…そしてこの二人を 融 合 し たコレは僕の切り札!!この穢 土 転 生 は誰 も止めら れ な い!) -> Kuku... This is different from what Orochimaru-sama experimented on Danzo... Shodai Hokage who was stronger than Madara! The fusion of these two people, this is my trump card! This Edo Tensei can't be stopped!

Translation error in chapter 560 regarding Edo Madara's ''This is his doing...'' quote.

Madara - あいつらのすることだ… 何か考えがあってのことなんだ ろ う が あまり計画通りに事が運んで な い ようだな オレをこんな形で復活さ せ る と は… この穢土転生の術者は誰だ? -> Those guys, to have done such a thing... What's the reason behind this, to be revived in such a state. Things don't seem to be going according to the plan... Who is the caster of this Edo Tensei jutsu?

Kabuto - ボクはカブト… 彼の協力者です… -> I am Kabuto... His partner/coworker.

Madara was referring to the Allied Forces, he was wondering what made those guys unite like that.
Kabuto was referring to Tobi.

Translation error in chapter 561 regarding the purpose of Impure World Resurrection.

Kabuto - ボク達ごと?-> Us too?
Madara - 当たり前だ… 穢土転生の術は本来こうやって 道 連 れに使うものだ オレ達は少しして元に戻る. -> Of course... Originally, this was the way IWR was meant to be used in the first place. We'll turn to back to normal (regenerate) in no time.

Madara didn't say anything about the caster of the jutsu. He just meant that Edo Tensei was supposed to be used in a suicide bombing manner. It wouldn't make any difference because the zombie would regenerate straight after.

Translation error in chapter 559 regarding Naruto and Hinata's conversation.
You must be registered for see images
It should have been:

Hinata thinking - 守ら な きゃ い け な い人に… 守 ら れて ば か りで… やっぱろ私 ってダメ だ… -> I am supposed to be protecting him... But he ends up protecting me instead... I am really useless after all...
Naruto - …気にすん な ヒナタ… オレだ ってお前に2度 も 守 ら れて ばっ か りじゃカッコわりーしな!-> Don't worry, Hinata... Besides, I would look like an idiot if you actually had to protect me twice!
Hinata - わ…わ たしは別 に… そん な 気 にして何 か… -> That... That actually wasn't... What I was worrying about...
Naruto - 目を見りゃわかる いちいち落 ち 込 む な!お前は強えーんだから!! -> It can be understood from your eyes. Don't get down on yourself. Because you are strong!

Translation error in chapter 562 regarding Tsunade's quote about FTG.
You must be registered for see images

Tsunade uses あい (ai) to refer to the person they'll transport via FTG.
I've actually never came across it before, but it definitely is the shortened version of あいつ (aitsu), which is a genderless pronoun that can be used for males and females.

So she was talking about Mei, not a male character.

Kind of murky translation in chapter 572, regarding the Sage's last words.

Rikudou Sennin - I have a very short time to live...
Shukaku, Matatabi, Isonade, Son Goku, Kokuou, Saiken, Choumei, Gyuuki/Ushi-oni, Kurama...
Even if you guys drift apart, you will always be together. A time will come when you will be reunited...
You each have a name...
Until now, you've had a different form. Be different than how you were while you were inside me. You will be correctly guided by what true power really is...

Kurama -It's been so long/We've waited for so long...Old man.

Minor mistake in chapter 404 regarding Kisame and Tobi's conversation.

Tobi - It's finally come to an end... Sorry you were decieved, even though you were the closest...
Kisame -!?!
*Tobi takes his mask off*
Kisame - ... ! ... So that's the way it was... It was you... I'm relieved. If you are the mastermind behind this, it makes my job a lot easier. Mizukage sama. No. Madara san...
Tobi - I'm counting on you, Kisame.

Tobi doesn't say closest to him in his first line. He doesn't use anything to specify it. He just says; you were the closest...

Major, major, MAJOR mistake in chapter 144 regarding Itachi's quote about Jiraiya.
You must be registered for see images

The above translation is way off.

Kisame - You could somehow win, but I couldn't stand up to such an opponent for more than a couple of minutes... It's on a completely different level.
Itachi - Ah... Either (we) both (he says both/two, meaning him and Kisame) would die, or it would be a draw... The result wouldn't change even if we increased our numbers.
Kisame - It was good that we found him at the ramen shop... And he has one of the Legendary Sannin as a lucky charm. That guy (Jiraiya) might be a fair match for the strongest Uchiha from Konoha and the Mist's strongest swordsman.
Itachi - Hmm, even so... It's said that every strong man has a weakness...

Kisame and Itachi were talking about the Kyuubi, not Jiraiya. Kisame brings the topic of Jiraiya up later on in the conversation and Itachi acknowledges that he's strong, but he says that he has a weakness. *girls girls girls*

It seems as if Kisame was babbling on about taking the Kyuubi on, that he couldn't do it more than a couple of minutes but Itachi would have a chance. Itachi states that they both wouldn't stand a chance of winning, even if they increased their numbers. Kisame states that it was lucky to find Naruto in the ramen shop but Jiraiya would pose a problem and Itachi just says; girls girls girls. <3

Does Gai pour blue sweat or green? Is he the Green Beast of Konoha or the Blue Beast of Konoha?
It's not much of an important matter, but I've came across some different translations of chapter 507 regarding what colour sweat pours out of Gai when he opens his gates.

As a matter of fact; both are correct.

In the Japanese language (ao) and 青い [aoi (noun)] can be used for both the colours blue and green. The meaning of it basically depends on the situation.

Modern Japanese does have a word for green; (midori). But (midori) first came around to identify a shade of blue. Like teal, if we have to give an example from the English language.

In the anime too, if I recall correctly, the colour of Gai's sweat was more of a greenish blue instead of a distinctive blue or green.

Even his nickname; 木ノ葉の気高き碧い猛獣 (Konoha's noble green/blue beast of prey) doesn't clear up anything, because 青い (aoi) is used to specify his colour there too.

It may seem weird or vague to the English language users, but it poses no problem for those who consider the colour (ao) as a range of blue to green in the first place. To them, calling something blue or green is like specifying the difference between light brown and dark brown. You can still get away with it by calling it only brown.

Translation error in chapter 577 regarding the name of Tsunade's jutsu; Hyakugou.
I had translated it as Hyakugou (百豪) from the script, but in dragonflyscans' manga translation, it was written as Byakugou (I guess it's supposed to be written as; 白毫).
You must be registered for see images
I actually wasn't sure which one was correct, because I wasn't able to get ahold of the raws until recently. I only had the Japanese script to work on and it could have been a typo.

Anyways, now that the raw manga is out, it turns out that I was correct. It's Hyakugou (百豪).

means one hundred and can mean small fine feathers or strenght/power. The name of her jutsu means strenght of a hundred or hundredfold strenght. It's basically extreme power or something along those lines.

Meh.
I think that's it for now.
I left a couple of known mistranslations out like Madara calling weak people ugly and Tobi referring to Nagato as the third path of the Sage because they have been debated millions of times. But I'll add them in if they're requested.

Over and out. :scorps:

Could you go through everything related to Tobi, Madara, Hashirama and Rikudou? All of Tobi's texts, someone talking about Tobi,Madara,Hashirama or Rikudou. Yamato, Orochimaru and others discussing Hashirama and his mokuton. Those ones >_<

I am sure there are plenty of mistakes. If you have time and desire to do this, it would be nice.

Edit : +rep, this thread deserves to be stickied.

Sorry, I'll need manga pages to translate.

But, as far as I know, Sasuke was effected by Oro's vaporizing blood, wasn't he? So that negates the claim that he's immune to all poisons.

Besides, from a logical point of view, you can't build an immunity against synthetic poisons like the one Sasori used. Sakura clearly stated that it was heavy metal based. How can you build an immunity against lead that's destroying your internal organs?

Well done, thank you x1000 is in order.

Can you add the one about Tobi and Kisame's convo in 404? From what you told me, it sounds very similar to Tsunade's statement about FTG, where the subject/ pronoun was not actually specified in the original Japanese text.
