i think itachi would win even though Gai is better at taijutsu because of his ability with the sharingan to interpret moves.

gai's base speed is slightly greater than itachi's but probably equal to A's base speed but I have to give it gai event though itachi can read his movements either that or a draw xd

Contrary to popular belief itachi the better taijutsu user than gai without gates.
Terms of speed without gates, itachi is superior by a little. Sharigan enhances his reflexes therefore able to counter gai assault whilst i cannot say the same for gai.

Sharigan can read their opponents moves, but at the sametime Gai should be able to read Itachi's movements as well because he is a taijutsu master. He would be able to react and counter to anyone of itachi's movements.

Just like a one swordsman can read anothers movement, a hand to hand combatant should be able to read anothers.

Gai is superior to anyone else in taijutsu.

Lastly we don't know any of Itachi's Taijutsu techs, but we know Gai's"
