The purpose of this thread
Why were the Senju Clan so strong? What abilities did they posses?
I will show you how inheriting the Sage's life force, physical energy and body influenced the abilities of the Senju clan and provide evidence to why the Sannin, Third Hokage, and Naruto are so strong. I will also provide evidence on what Orochimaru said was true and about the Third Hokage in his prime might have been thee strongest Hokage but lost all his powers due to old age.

As you know the Senju are descandants of the Sage's younger heir. The heir was gifted with the sage's Body, Life force and physical energy which the Senju inherited.
In naruto, physical stamina is converted into chakra.
Also physical stamina helps regulate chakra
The way to pull off techniques in Naruto is that you first have to have the amount of physical stamina and spiritual energy to build up enough chakra to perform the technique:

The senju clan were gifted with rikudou sennins life force, physical energy and body.
So now we know that the Senju had enhanced physical stamina and physical energy but how exactly is it enhanced?
There is a direct correlation between the Senju Clan and Naruto's Sage and Kyubbi Controlled Mode.
The Rikuduo Sennin or Sage of Six paths power and energy were in fact Nature related. Whether its a result of having the Juubi or he always possesed such energies is a mystery. However there is evidence that the Nine tails and quite possibly all the tailed beast have the ability to give off this nature power or Sage like energy.

Yammato is an incomplete wood style user because he lacks the life energy abilties the first Hokage has. However THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU GET LIFE ENERGY NEXT TO YAMATOS WOOD

As stated before the First Hokage inherited the Rikudo' Sennins life giving abilities, massive chakra and incredible physical energy because he inherited such abilities he was the strongest of his clan but do not be fooled; the rest of the Senju clan inherited Massive chakra, physical energy (the body) and physical stamina(the body) from the Sage of Six paths.
The Senju basically inherited "NATURE LIFE GIVING POWER" They are called Senju clan of the forest for a reason.

Now I believe Naruto's Sage mode, Senjustu, the Senju and The Sage of Six Paths are all related.
Senjutsu uses the power of nature itself. However earlier in this thread we have determined that the rikodou's sage chakra is nature/life giving based.
So what does this have to do with anything? Well what did the rikodou passed down to the senju? That very same power.
The Senju were powered by a physical energy Naruto possesed in Sage Mode. but its "watered down."
As you know. Senjutsu takes the power of "natural energy" or "sage chakra" and converts it into chakra strengthening the user's techniques.
The Senju performed similiar very watered down feats without having to go into sage mode since they were born with a high physical stamina and boosted chakra capacity right off the bat thanks to their lineage. Remember when Danzo had his physical energy boosted by the first Hokage's DNA this was the result.
One kick sent Karin flying..but the force behind that kick was incredible.
So allow me to illustrate this again:
Tsunade Senju
To put it in perspective the Senju are water downed Sage Mode Narutos because they inherited the physical energy from the Sage of Six Paths they were able to use powerful ninjutsus and use forbidden techniques that were outside the realm of regular ninja with average chakra pools.

Given the evidence we can determine the fighting Style of the Senju in the past
Techniques similiar to the Rasengan, Lightning Blade and kage Bunshins were spammed.
Naruto spams the Shadow clone and it seems unoriginal however it is very much original. Only a few Ninja could spam that many shadow clones. and those ninjas are the Uzamaki and Senju clan.
Actually let me make this clear on how rare Naruto's ability is; being the last of his kind he is probably the only ninja to this date capable of his feats.

You see what also made the Senju extremely powerful were the ability to use S class ninjutsu or kinjutsu with ease. Sage Mode, Triple rashmon gates, Summoning Manda, Oral rebirth, Hermit Mode, are all products that the massive chakra the sannin possesed NATURUALLY without some sort of assistance or articial enhancement. Ill go into detail on the Sannin but think about this panel

You can look at this panel 1 of 2 ways. The first way is the obvious. The Third Hokage is old and he's not in his prime to use the powerful ninjutsus he has in her arsenal. The 2 second way is a bit more sophisticated then that.
1) we know that the thid Hokage's chakra levels are much lower then what they use to be.
2) We know because they are low he can't use the high level techs he normally does had he been in his prime
THUS THE GOLDEN RULE OF NARUTO HAS BEEN STATED:
The more greater your chakra capacity is the more chakra demanding jutsus you can potentially use.
Meaning Shikamaru could never use Lightning Blade or Kirin because he doesn't have the high enough chakra level to even attempt the technique never mind having an affinity for lightning.
GETTING TO THE POINT:
This is evidence that ALL OTHER CLANS BESIDES THE UCHIHA WERE DISADVANTAGED fighting the Senju who were ninjutsu/taijutsu powerhouse tanks. The clans basically brought knives and bats to fight the senju who brought 50 calibur machine guns, M-16s and Sniper rifles. No contest.
Explaining the power and abilities the Third Hokage had

The Sannin
The Sannin were powerful but few understand just how and why they were so powerful. The Sannin inherited the blood of the Senju and body of the sage.It has already been confirmed that Tsunade is the granddaughter of the first Hokage but she is on equal term or perhaps weaker then her other two siblings. All three ninja had powerful large summons. Gamabuta, Manda, and Katsuya.
Gamabatu required naruto to access the nine - tail fox's chakra in order to be summoned.
People like Jiraiya, and the 4th Hokage did this without any assistance.
So what makes the Sannin so powerful and sets them apart from most of the ninja world???? I will tell you again. The ability to spam powerful ninjutsus with their massive chakra capacity and use forbidden techniques.
Ironically the Sannin of Konoha aren't particurally gifted in the art of genjutsu.
Orochimaru was beaten by it twice. Jiraiya admitted it in his fight against pain he sucked at it and we have yet to see a genjutsu feat done by Tsunade at all. Instead they all have some powerful physical ability. Tsunade Senju has her youth trick, super strength, regeneration, and medical abilties.
Jiraiya has his Hermit mode. Orochimaru has his regeneration, and near immortality.
Since their physical energy is boosted they have massive chakra reserves. Where as in the Uchiha they have powerful spiritual energy which allows them to wield the sharingan without fatigue and they excel in the art of mastering ninjutsu and are tactical genuises.
What I believe Orochimaru artficially enhanced about himself was the abiltity to take other people's bodies and regenerate. However Orochimaru had a very powerful life force and unbelievable stamina to begin with.
Even before Orochimaru did experimented on himself he was already regarded as a genuius Orochimaru is a stamina monster, a chakra beast and extremely intelligent this is why he was feared. In his fight against the Third their physical energy and power were displayed.
His oral rebirth technique was chakra demanding. However during his fight with 4 tailed Naruto he was able to spam it. Like I said The Senju were spammers lol. You want to know just how demanding the oral rebirth technique is??? Sasuke with Orochimaru in CS2 could only do it once.

Even with sasuke in CS2 could not touch the massive chakra Orochimaru has.
The Oral rebirth is a powerful jutsu that Orochimaru spammed.
Again, this is what made the Senju dangerous. The ability to spam powerful jutsus and USE forbidden techs that other ninjas could not use thanks to their massive chakra, durable bodies and astonishing life force.
Orochimaru's physical energy he inherited by being a descendant of the Senju clan is constantly getting "rejected" by his vessels. Since Orochimaru no longer has his original "vessel" to handle that massive chakra he is constantly getting rejected. Orochimaru's soul swap jutsu is nothing more then a parasite invading someone's body. Only that Parasite takes control over the body. This is why Orochimaru retains his extraordinary gifts but why the vessel can only take so much abuse.
"You will die here and I will obtain an even younger more beautiful stronger body."
Key word stronger. Again, Orochimaru needs a vessel that can handle his massive chakra.

Orochimaru's life energy is similiar to shodai's in that they sort of have life of there own. Kabuto had to gain the upperhand on Orochimaru's cells just as Danzo had to seal the 1st Hokage's cells. Orochimaru was either born with that life energy or he somehow transplated the 1st Hokage's cells within himself. However Orochimaru was always seen as inhuman.
On thee other hand we know that Orochimaru was experimenting with the 1st Hokage's cells.
Kabuto refer's to Orochimaru's powers as powers and not abilities.
Similiar to how Danzou injected the first Hokage's cells in him Kabuto did the same with Orochimaru cells. As you know Kabuto took Orochimaru's justus as well as his regenerative powers when he injected Orochimaru's cells in him. However Kabuto also took Orochimaru's massive chakra capacity and seemingly increased it. Which shows in his power to summon Manda 2 a much larger and I'm assuming is a more chakra demanding technique.
His power boost also shows in his edo tensei.
What does this mean? It means Kabuto right now has 1 of the if not most biggest Chakra capacities. This also means he is able to use the most demanding jutsus which also means right now he may have the most powerful jutsus up his sleeve right now super edo tensei.
The real reason why orochimaru wanted Sasuke's body was for his chakra as well. He wanted the chakra of the Uchiha as well as the eyes. Orochimaru would be damn near unstoppable if he were to get a hold of Sasuke's body. Imagine a ninja with a massive chakra capacity, filled with the most powerful chakra, and gifted with the ability to learn powerful ninja techniques at an inhuman rate. Picture Sasuke with a chakra pool as big as Orochimaru's, regeneration and forbidden techs . You will get a ninja with ability to spam a bunch of lighting blades, earth walls, suiton water guns, Super Genjustus, immunity to genjutsus, edo tensei like jutsus, and summons like manda.
You can't? Orochimaru can and so does this guy
This could also mean Sasuke's chakra could be more potent then Itachi's even though Itachi is smarter then Sasuke which is why orochimaru said sasuke has eye's that may surpass Itachi. If Orochimaru where to take Sasuke's eyes without his chakra he would be worse off then Kakashi with Obito's 1 eye.

Orochimaru's physical energy he inherited by being a descendant of the Senju clan is constantly getting "rejected" by his vessels. Since Orochimaru no longer has his original "vessel" to handle that massive chakra he is constantly getting rejected. Orochimaru's soul swap jutsu is nothing more then a parasite invading someone's body. Only that Parasite takes control over the body. This is why Orochimaru retains his extraordinary gifts but why the vessel can only take so much abuse.

Orochimaru's life energy is similiar to shodai's in that they sort of have life of there own. Kabuto had to gain the upperhand on Orochimaru's cells just as Danzo had to seal the 1st Hokage's cells. Orochimaru was either born with that life energy or he somehow transplated the 1st Hokage's cells within himself. However Orochimaru was always seen as inhuman.

On thee other hand we know that Orochimaru was experimenting with the 1st Hokage's cells.
Kabuto refer's to Orochimaru's powers as powers and not abilities.
Similiar to how Danzou injected the first Hokage's cells in him Kabuto did the same with Orochimaru cells. As you know Kabuto took Orochimaru's justus as well as his regenerative powers when he injected Orochimaru's cells in him. However Kabuto also took Orochimaru's massive chakra capacity and seemingly increased it. Which shows in his power to summon Manda 2 a much larger and I'm assuming is a more chakra demanding technique.

What does this mean? It means Kabuto right now has 1 of the if not most biggest Chakra capacities. This also means he is able to use the most demanding jutsus which also means right now he may have the most powerful jutsus up his sleeve right now super edo tensei.
The real reason why orochimaru wanted Sasuke's body was for his chakra as well. He wanted the chakra of the Uchiha as well as the eyes. Orochimaru would be damn near unstoppable if he were to get a hold of Sasuke's body. Imagine a ninja with a massive chakra capacity, filled with the most powerful chakra, and gifted with the ability to learn powerful ninja techniques at an inhuman rate. Picture Sasuke with a chakra pool as big as Orochimaru's, regeneration and forbidden techs . You will get a ninja with ability to spam a bunch of lighting blades, earth walls, suiton water guns, Super Genjustus, immunity to genjutsus, edo tensei like jutsus, and summons like manda.

This could also mean Sasuke's chakra could be more potent then Itachi's even though Itachi is smarter then Sasuke which is why orochimaru said sasuke has eye's that may surpass Itachi. If Orochimaru where to take Sasuke's eyes without his chakra he would be worse off then Kakashi with Obito's 1 eye.
